Does anyone know about Toyota Warranty/MOT?

Sorry - so boring!

I have a used Toyota (purchased through a dealership) which is due an MOT. It's not due an actual service until April next year.

I want to take the car to my local garage for it's MOT - I've used them for years, trust them not to rip me off, and the location is also far more convenient than the nearest Toyota dealership. If I was also due a service at the same time it would make more sense to take it to Toyota to do everything in one go, but it's not.

But I can't find anywhere if having the MOT done elsewhere (not Toyota) will impact the Toyota extended warranty? All actual services I will obviously get done at the Toyota dealership/an approved location.

I know I could phone Toyota but in my experience of dealing with them they'll give me the answer that means they get my money! Sell, sell, sell... etc.

My previous Toyota was brand new so I didn't have to think about MOTs. And before this I've only really had old bangers, purchased privately secondhand, and then I just took them to my usual mechanic for any work/MOTs/services as obviously there was no warranty to worry about!

Thanks!

Pretty sure you can get a mot anywhere without effecting the warranty.

You can get an MOT anywhere but if it fails and needs repairs it can be more complicated to take it somewhere other than the MOT garage in the sense that you'd have to book repairs separately with the Toyota place, drive it from one to the other etc. Whereas if ours fail (both Toyotas and use a Toyota place) they can usually fit them in for repairs very quickly.

Yeah, that is a good point about if it actually fails...

So if were to fail any repairs would need to be done by Toyota, or my warranty could then be impacted?

With our Kia you could have it MOTd anywhere and it didn’t affect the warranty . The issue would be if you had parts that were non standard and then tried to claim on the warranty at a future date however most of the things on an MOT are not likely to be covered by a warranty anyway as they are wear and tear parts .

I'm not sure to be honest as we just use the Toyota place for everything (ours is really convenient). But if it has been serviced regularly and any necessary repairs done then anything else is likely to either be a warranty repair or something you could check for and fix beforehand like bulbs, wipers, tyres. Have you searched the terms of the warranty online?

Thanks!

Yes I've looked at the warranty info and I can't find anything about MOTs in the T&Cs.

I suppose that's a good point that most parts that would be checked under an MOT being "wear and tear" and not included under the warranty anyway. I mean I wouldn't go to Toyota for tyres for example. Bulbs, wipers, etc. are all currently working fine.

We only got the car in April and it was serviced then, so if there's anything seriously wrong with it now I'd be having a conversation with Toyota anyway.

Having now checked the car's service history there is no record of MOTs in there anyway only the routine services or checks done by Toyota. So based on the records I don't even know if the previous owner had it MOT'd by Toyota or not.

So on the basis of the above and the advice received (thank you!) I think I'll take it to my local garage and see how it goes. I'll just ask them to call me if it fails for anything serious that I might need to get Toyota to look at for parts/repairs.

Thank you... most boring post ever but appreciate the replies!
