Who is this man? Asking for my child...

My parents text me on Friday - saying a man has visited their previous address (they have recently moved) and had been asking to see my child. He claimed to be from the local county council but would not provide id.

The new resident contacted my parents to let them know.

He man knew my child's name.

I lived at my parents home for three months many years ago and the child was briefly registered in the school at the address. This was over three years ago and my child has no other connection to the property.

Before anyone asks - the child is registered to my home in every way. I have also asked the school if they know what it could be about and they don't.

I have rang the council switchboard and they couldn't understand what it could be / if at all legit.

Anyone have any ideas?

How old is your child?
I wonder if they've registered online for something but decided to do it using your DP address as it "felt safer" nor using their own one? Could they be the age to do something dumb like that?

I'd re contact the council as if someone is posing as a council officer they really need to start looking into that.

Only 7 - wouldn't be accessing or registering for anything online..

Could the resident give a description of the man? Given that the council/school have no idea what it's about then it maybe worth flagging it up with the police. It maybe something and nothing but who knows, they may have a record of it happening before.

Do you live with your child's father, or have any contact with him?

Suspect they're checking on children who aren't registered in school in that area or who were but aren't now in school in that area ? Is it a different Local Authority?

I’d assume some sort of child welfare or school attendance check, which could have been instigated by their own records, or by something like a neighbour reporting that a child used to live at the address but hadn’t been seen for a long time and thinking this was concerning.

Council switchboard operators aren’t typically informed of everything which goes on across the council, and the visitor not giving details of their visit to the new resident once they’d established they were unconnected is good data protection.

They haven't joined up the child that was registered there and then disappeared with the one at your new address enrolled in school.
Now they are aware that your family moved hopefully they will join the dots and either contact you directly or realise all is well.
