Boyf/DP mattress giving me hip pain… what to do?

Bit of a two part question really,
every fortnight I sleep over at boyfriend/DP’s house, (he can’t come to mine easily as has his son all the time whereas my dc are away eow). We’ve been together a year and it’s going really well. We feel quite committed. No plans to blend families or move in or anything.

I love snuggling with him but don’t sleep particularly well there and have realised it’s because pain in my hip wakes me up and I have to turn over but I’m used to only sleeping on my left side.

firstly - can mattresses cause this? It feels quite firm and I think it’s quite old. What topper/mattress would be better? I don’t get it on mine which is probably a cheaper type of Ikea mattress and is I think softer. I always thought I preferred a firmer one but clearly this one doesn’t agree with my body/sleeping position!

secondly - not sure how or whether to broach this. Obviously I’m only there for 1-2 nights a fortnight so can’t expect him to buy a new mattress for my benefit!
Should I offer to buy a topper for his mattress? He’s a back sleeper so probably likes the firm mattress.
he’s very kind and considerate but I don’t want him to feel obliged to spend money on a new mattress as they are ££! On the other hand it is quite knackered and I think he has mentioned before he was going to replace the bed

Why not get a single mattress topper to put under the sheet on your side of the bed. Yes different mattresses can cause hip pain. I started getting it a lot in my perimenopause years but not sure how old you are. I'm sure this should be easy enough to broach with your partner, just tell him what the issue is.

Ah interesting about perimenopause, I’m 43 and generally more joint achey!

I didn’t think about a single one - that’s a good idea and I could use it in future for my dc’s bed
