Bike rack for car question

Hi all
My DC are 5 and 6, when they upgrade to their next bike i will need a bike rack for my car and confused about which to get, DH and i may also get a cheap bike each now they can go quite far, but i dont really cycle myself.

  1. We only really cycle in a london park, I do travel 100 miles to my parents' every half term/end of term, i take our bikes but we only occaisionally use them there.
  1. I have seen that a towbar rack is the easiest to use, but is it bonkers to go to the expense of getting a towbar fitted for this considering we dont cycle that much? I have no plans to tow anything else.
  1. When i go to my parents' i drive alone one way so convenience is VERY important as dh wont be around to do lifting. Im also a bit worried about not being able to see out the back?

Would it be betyer to get a cheap boot/roof rack or is it better to go straight to towbar?

Thanks!

I prefer the towbar option. You can then carry multiple bikes without the effort of getting them on the roof and you could carry all the bikes. However, there is a cost to that and if you are not going to use it much, I wouldn't.

A boot rack works fine for us. Saris bones.

Depends how much you want to spend. From memory it was around £150 to have the towbar fitted and we had a Thule rack. You need space in a garage/shed to store it when not in use. I had no problems with visibility using it.
