Do your Kitchen cabinets...

Go all the way to the ceiling?

I hate the top of the cabinet and it gets so filthy (because I'm too lazy to clean it) and it's such a waste of space.

Most kitchens have this useless gap, very few go to the ceiling.

Wouldn't look odd to have it to the ceiling?

I think I need to declutter…

Yes, we had a declutter, but we have room for everything we need. Dh didn't need four coffee grinders and a million plastic food boxes.

Mine don’t because I have really high ceilings. The wall cabinets are already so high that I can only reach the bottom shelf. I need steps for anything any higher.

But it also means that I can’t reach the top of the cabinets at all so I can’t deal with the sticky dust in any way.

We have high ceilings but I still wish our kitchen cupboards went all the way to the ceiling. I'd just stand on a stool or stepladder to get things. It would be good for birthday things, party supplies, Christmas stuff- things that get used but only a few times a year. Just makes no sense to me to not maximise the storage potential in a house. We have the same issue in our bedroom too - built-in wardrobes but not all the way to the ceiling. I find it really annoying although the fittings are all high quality and in good condition so I can't justify getting new ones done just yet.

We've just ordered our new kitchen from Howdens and have done this, our ceilings are 2.75m so seems a shame to waste that space, I also have a hoarding hobbyist for a husband! He's 6'4 so his stuff can go up high. I'm also hoping it means we can get rid of the cupboards under the stairs and put in a downstairs loo

I do. Looks fine. Makes the worktop way more user friendly I have space to hang mugs underneath. This is a holiday house I own. My own house doesn’t and I also hate the space at top and how cramped the worktop is. You may not have much use for top shelf depending how tall you are but you can add shelves h debate or hanging mugs and no dirty tops of cupboards ever!

We are moving house ant the new house is and extend 1930s house.

Currently jts lovely but lovely from 1988. It is fitted with Welsh dresser style units and terazzo work tops and a scrubbed pine table.

We will live with it for a year or so anyway - we have until we can draw down more on the mortgage. Which is itself a good thing.

@Clutterbugsmum in addition to cupboards that go all the way to the ceiling, we also have flat slab doors. We went even further and have no handles either.

Clutterbugsmum · 07/10/2024 07:34

@DilemmaDelilah I hadn't thought about no handles, I'll add this to the list along with self-closing doors and drawers as DH manages to leave the door open by an inch.

DilemmaDelilah · 07/10/2024 10:02

@Clutterbugsmum we have self closing drawers and doors as well. All our bottom cabinets are drawers (except under the sink) and we have full height cupboards with pull out wire shelves as well. I love it! (It was very expensive😪)

We had ours put in all the way to the ceiling. Great extra space. I have a lovely stool ladder thing so I can reach.
