Universal credit and student finance - separating from husband as a third year nursing student

Currently a third year nursing student with two SN DC and a completely useless DH who I have finally had enough of. I’ve asked him to move out and he has very kindly agreed but has informed me he won’t be paying our rent this month now (due on the 10th).

He was a fairly high earner, not quite sure what and he refused to give his info to student finance so I currently receive the lowest amount of maintenance loan (just under £6k a year) and the £7k NHS bursary which took my yearly income to £13k. Out of this I cover the full cost of childcare for both kids which works out to £900 a month, the rest goes on clothes/shoes for my DDs. Oldest dd receives high rate dla however this is used to completely cover her private OT (which is £550 a month). Obviously I’m a bit up shit creek(creak?!) but I cannot back down now, not when I finally have grown a spine. I need him out. He is completely useless and besides covering the monthly bills (other than childcare) rent, he gives me no money to even buy myself a takeaway coffee (not that I’m complaining as I am not entitled to his money). He has made it extremely difficult to finish this course (had to take a 2 year gap after my littlest dd was born as he refused to help with very high needs dd), and am now in my final year against all odds, I cannot quit now.

Ive looked into entitled to however they can’t give an estimate, I just want to know if it’s likely I would be entitled to some help? How does it usually work with student finance and UC? If anyone has any experiences I would greatly appreciate it. My landlord is absolutely lovely and I think she will allow me to pay late, I just need to get everything figured out and not quite sure where to start.

There is a private group on Facebook called universal credit survival and if you join and post on there someone will calculate your entitlement for you. Put in the claim for CM straight away too OP

@Pandasnacks Thank you so much, I really appreciate the response. I will look into that now. He's self employed and very smart so I don't have much hope for CM to be honest but we will see!

You can’t claim UC if you are a full time student OP unfortunately

Ah actually if responsible for kids you may be able to but your finance would be factored in
