Ideas for my 50th

I turn 50 second week of January, midweek, it’s a miserable month to have a normal birthday, let alone a milestone. Dry January and money are normally reasons for people to not want to celebrate. I did want to celebrate with an amazing holiday but now short on money. Easter might be doable.

should I bite the bullet and book a short weekend trip with DH and DC? Should I look for a once in a lifetime style red letter day? Does the orient express still exist? I’m keen on aircraft. Should I book a party for early Feb? Ideas please?

I chose to book a holiday lodge big enough to house us, my children, and my children's children so that we could spend some time together. You may well already spend a lot of time with your family, but mine were somewhat spread out at the time. Being with my family is one of my greatest joys in life. I am aware that isn't the case for everyone.

Happy birthday for Jan. Fellow 50th birthday pending (first week of Jan). I’m escaping the post-Xmas grim weather & general grumpiness by going abroad with my husband. Will likely celebrate with my kids (adults/late teen) at some point later in the year when we all get the chance to get together.
I’ve long thought that those of us with the crappiest birthday timing should have a belated day later in the year!

Orient Express definitely still exists but is pricy (approx £5k per person for 5 days), although you could get an amazing trip elsewhere for that money

Or if the train trip interests you, you can get a day trip to various places www.intotheblue.co.uk/excursions/train-experiences/

I've done the Northern Belle one and the Murder Mystery, both excellent and a very special day out

It’s term time, so I could only do a weekend. Orient express used to a one day experience, lunch, maybe that.

or a fighter jet experience or a city break in Europe but weather will be shit. A party where I’m struggling for guests worries me. My family are all hundreds of miles away, so would be friends only

Do people have 50th parties? I'm not sure I know anyone who had one. Most just do something with their spouse or immediate family.

I work in a school so have to stick to term time and going anywhere on a weekend is an absolute pain as you really can't go too far as flight prices now are just not worth it for the time you have somewhere.

Are you a foodie? What about a tasting menu at a Michelin place?

Do you have a hobby or sport? I did an event in an exotic location connected to my sport and took my bestie with me.

For my 50th last year I did 50 things through the year that I've wanted to do for ages & not got round to doing. Some were really simple things & some more elaborate. It was just taking opportunities!

Helicopter flight?

Greentreesandbushes · 05/10/2024 20:57

I’m loving these ideas. Thank you. Loving helicopter idea, loving 50 things. To answer a PP most people I know who turned 50 had a party, I’m not keen.
