End of life

I know there are a lot of threads on here about end of life care and experiences, and I know everyone’s experience will be different, but I was with my grandmother tonight at the end of her life. She wasn’t sedated or medicated, but it was still an incredibly peaceful passing. I realise that’s very, very lucky and I’m so grateful for it. I just wanted others to know that sometimes it is possible for your loved one to just fade into sleep. I really hope that’s how I go when my time comes.

Sorry for your loss of your grandmother. My grandmother went the same way and it was comforting to know it could be so peaceful.

I think most people hope this is exactly how they will depart, but unfortunately there are people with illnesses and conditions, some of them young enough that it's an inevitability the illness will get them before old age, who know with a fair degree of certainty they are facing anything but a peaceful, tranquil passing.

I am sorry to hear of your grandmothers passing, and understand why your are grateful for the manner of her death. I wish I could say the same about how my own father died.
