Baby hair growth?

Hhhiy · 04/10/2024 20:32

My daughter’s hair is so fine. She’s 8.5mo

this is it on top it’s a bit thicker at sides and back

Did your babies hair growth quick after 1? Sorru to sound stupid. She’s beautiful no matter what. But 2 older women today in M&S seperately made a comment about he - despite me having a pink blanket and jacket on her and a dress underneath ?!!

Hard no to this. Anything that worked would be something you wouldn't put on a baby.

Popskipiekin · 04/10/2024 20:51

Other people make unthinking comments about babies. Try your best to ignore them (I know it is hard, I got all sorts). As you say, your baby is beautiful. Her hair will grow when it grows. I know people can feel strongly anti hair bands etc on babies but if she was comfortable occasionally wearing a soft cosy hair band, that may help to ward off more silly comments in public.

Borris · 04/10/2024 20:54

My dd had really fine hair and now she has a fine thick mane

Hhhiy · 04/10/2024 20:56

Yeah I probably need to just do hair bands I always feel bad about them weirdly haha? Like it’ll give her a little headache

i mean now it’s winter she can have cute knitted hats with a bow on lol

It is just annoying I feel like people associate long hair with girls so she hasn’t got it and I feel like people make stupid comments for the sake of saying she hasn’t got much hair

If it makes you feel better my DD had loads of hair. Not only did I have such bad heartburn in pregnancy that I was miserable for weeks at the end, but it's also a giant PITA, clipping it out of the way as she merrily pulled out her clips and tried to eat them. And people still assumed she was a boy, with long hair in neutral clothes.

bizzey · 04/10/2024 21:06

@Hhhiy ..how long do you think her hair should be at 8 months ?

Olika · 04/10/2024 21:07

Just ignore stupid comments. I got few about my DD whom some thought was a boy though she had tons of hair and I didn't cut it. At least nobody has asked you if yours is adopted. I got asked as my DD is mixed race. 😂 and once someone thought my mum is DD's mum (my mum is in her 70s). There are always stupid comments from people who have no better things to say.

Both mine were bald as coots till they were 18 months!

Is this a joke?

Is this a joke?

What’s wrong with asking that? There’s lots of different baby bath products and shampoos out there I was just seeing if any helped hair growth?

There's such huge variety between kids! Some have loads almost from birth, others are almost bald till well past 1.

For me: DS1 had very little hair, very fine. Got a huge bald patch on the back of his head for ages. It started to grow longer but still very fine from about 1, then around 2.5-3 became thicker and wavy. He's now 8 and it's very thick, dark and wavy.

DS2 had more hair, also very fine, but it grew more quickly. And it seemed to grow straight up! He had a halo of ever-longer fuzz for months before it started to lie down. He's 5, and his hair is still finer, blonde and dead straight.

I was a pretty bald baby. It grew eventually!

Bobbie12345 · 04/10/2024 21:34

Mine were bald until nearly two. Lovely hair now as teens.
A silver lining I found was that at least there was nothing for other babies/ toddlers to grab at! I had a friend with twins who were forever yanking on each others hair!!

Mumof2namechange · 04/10/2024 21:38

It's just genetic.

Both my kids were born with loads of hair and it kept growing. Baby DS will need a second haircut soon, it's in his eyes and covers his ears, he's only 10 months old. Gets mistaken for a girl a lot even though his clothes often say "Baby Brother" on. But I have friends whose kids were basically bald until over 18 months. It's crazy to try and guess the sex of a baby based on hair length when most of them haven't had a haircut yet.

Don't mess about with creams, that's silly and could be harmful. Just put a nice hat on. You can get 1920s style turban shape baby girl hats, my dd had one.

idrinkandknowthings · 04/10/2024 21:45

Nicely OP, does it really matter? Your little girl has no idea she's a girl yet any way and what's it matter if someone in M&S thought she was a boy?!

totallyaddictedtocheese · 04/10/2024 21:49

My little boy has just turned 2 and is only just starting to grow hair. We just, see it as money saved from not having to get his hair cut 😅 I certainly wouldn't worry about comments from strangers.

BloodyAdultDC · 04/10/2024 21:49

My dd was like a snooker ball until about 18m. She's now got a full mane of thick hair.

Your dd's hair will come through soon enough.

Superhansrantowindsor · 04/10/2024 22:07

One of my DC. Was pretty much bald until the age of 2. Her hair eventually grew. It’s very fine but stunningly beautiful and soft as silk.

bizzey · 04/10/2024 22:20

No one has answered the scientific question ...of why should a girl have more hair than a boy at 8 months old !
