Difficult Buyers - are we being unreasonable?

Hi everyone - I have a dilemma that we really would like some advice on. We are selling our house and buying a new property, the rest of the chain is near completion. Our buyer has been to our property to view twice already. He is a trainee surveyor and has asked that we allow him 3 hours of access to complete an inspection. We have declined this, advising we are not comfortable for this to happen as he will have no public liability insurance if he was to damage anything, plus no official report can be made so any negotion as to price ect afterwards will not be on impartial findings . We have offered him through our estate agents to visit the property again and offered a longer visit accompanied by the agents and also for him to hire a qualified surveyor to attend to complete an official report. He has now gone through his solicitor to our solicitor, is ignoring the estate agents calls stating we are being obstructive. Are we being unreasonable?

Thanks for your insights!

You’re definitely not being unreasonable!
As you say he’s not qualified, it won’t be impartial, sounds like he’s being an arse about it.

I don't think you are being unreasonable. If he wants a survey done he can send a qualified surveyor. Like the rest of us do. It's not a legal matter so I can't see why he's involved the solicitors.

Does he need a mortgage, i.e. does he need a valuation and is he therefore planning on only paying for that and he'll do his own survey? It's rude and daft, as whatever he comes up with will be of no bargaining power to him as he's not qualified. He sounds like a real PITA and I would get your solicitor to say no, bugger off (in legal speak!)

Sounds like he is wants to use your house as a project for his part of his training.
