Jumpers How Much Would You Pay?

Hello Lovely Mumsnetters

Really interested to know what is the most you would pay for a jumper and what is your 'go to' favourite place to shop for jumpers?

For years I have been going to H&M, M&S and Next, buying jumpers which are OK and around the £40 price range.

Starting to think now buy less, spend more and get something I really like rather than thinking what I am buying is OK.

Would really appreciate your views/guidance as not sure best places to look or how much to budget.

Many thanks for your guidance.

I would also find it abit painful to spend more than £40 on a jumper. Nowadays, anyway.

My favourite navy jumper is a cotton/poly mix I got from Uniqlo about 10 years ago. It still looks new, not sure how or why.
Washes like a dream.

I don’t do well with 100% wool jumpers. I’ve had a few before. One got eaten by moths. One shrunk in the wash and the other one was too itchy and hairy.

Cos do some nice jumpers. I’ve still got a few from there that I’ve had years.

Excellent thread OP. I am watching with interest.
To those who use moth strips - is there a brand you use ? I've looked about (Robert Dyas seem to sell moth proofing) but is there an absolutely bomb proof strip, which doesn't add too much smell?

I use whatever moth repellent that I can get hold of. Zero make is good. I’m absolutely paranoid about the little b ***s, since DS brought his jacket back from Uni, riddled with them!
I use spray if I’m leaving the wardrobe shut while going away. I have plastic catching strips in the wardrobes and use the hanging tags in drawers.
They do have a smell, but when I get the jumpers out of the airlock bags ( put in clean obviously) I hang them up to air and the smell quickly goes.

£100-150, nearly always buy Toast jumpers 2nd hand on ebay. Good quality, cosy, just watch out for itchy wool (e.g. the Donegal ones are itchy). Big bonus is that darning repairs are free at Toast, as I always get elbow holes in jumpers.

I bought a toast jumper about 10 years ago it looks like new never bobbled and it always gets comments. It's a classic beige and navy stripe but quite wide with fitted sleeves so looks smart and good with a shirt. £100 well spent as I have worn it so often and it always looks great. It's cotton and has always gone in the washing machine
Also love sezanne not the best natural material but a bit elevated in the style stakes. Betty cardigan looks lovely

Uniqlo cashmere also nice
Mint velvet for a fashion jumper
This year sea salt has really nice vest jumpers in gorgeous colours

Huge thanks to everyone for their advice. I have taken the plunge and bought a cashmere jumper from Toast, it is gorgeous, a lot more than I would normally pay but I as hoping it will be worth it and last me a good few years. I am certainly going to keep it in a zipped bag, that was an excellent tip!

Thanks again everyone and keep warm and cozy.

£40 as well. But I find “better” cashmere jumpers just get eaten by clothes moths, whereas my cheaper lambswool ones don’t. So better value for money.

Did you buy that gorgeous 4-ply on ebay that just came up for sale? I nearly did but it was size small and I'm a medium. Anyway, do remember that Toast will do free repairs/darnings if you ever need it.

Toast will insist on a receipt for repairs. I bought a blanket that unravelled, and I contacted them about a repair. They insisted on a receipt, but I couldn't find it in any of my emails. They had no record, and despite being a long-term repeat customer, they refused to help.

So don't rely on Toast to fix an eBay purchase.

I've never been asked for a receipt. I don't see why it would matter, anyway, whether you're the original buyer or not, it's still a Toast garment and the whole point of the repair service is to stop clothes ending up in landfill.

No, I didn't see it but I will be keeping an eye on eBay for Toast jumpers, many thanks 👍.

£5.00 charity shop. Not joking, had some great ones, always worth looking in the men's section too. Things often get put on the wrong rail.

Mamma2837 · 10/11/2024 21:13

I buy secondhand and get wool and cashmere for about £40. Occasionally I'll buy expensive wool jumpers in a sale. But I can't justify the cost of full price.
