Car recommendation for 4 kids

Carseatcarq · 04/10/2024 13:27

Hi, I'm looking for recommendations please for a car that'll fit two high back boosters as well as have room for someone adult sized to sit in-between them, even if it's a little squished.

Current car an old Volvo Xc90 is perfect but will need to get something new soon enough as it's starting to fall apart.

Don't have a large budget (definitely under 10k now like maybe 6-7k unless I sell an asset already but even then wouldn't want to spend more than 15k) but do have 4 kids.
Must be able to own the vehicle outright- I don't do finance.
Would be nice if there's boot space for shopping and small bikes and assorted family crap.
Must have fairly high ground clearance.

Oh and I resent having to drive manual nowadays (spoilt) and can't stand Vauxhall zafiras.

Pretty sure I'm asking for the impossible (or a better version of my current car) but any help appreciated!

You'll do better posting on the PistonHeads.com car buying forum!

I have an older style Citroën C4 Grand Picasso which ticks all your boxes. I bought it for 2k 6 years ago and it's still going strong! When it dies I plan on getting the newer version. Not sure where you stand on getting an automatic actually. I love it and recommend to everyone! Will be gutted when it dies!

We have recently bought a long wheel base Peugeot Rifter. At first I was dubious because it’s a bit ugly but I’m totally converted now! It’s spacious, decent boot space and fold down seats and quite cheap. It is a manual though!

We have a Ford Galaxy which would probably fit your brief not sure o; the pricing but we bought 66 plate for about 10000 last year.

Another vote for the Galaxy!

I wouldn't get any Citroen or Peugeot. Reliability has increased in recent years but they don't have a good reputation for reliability. You'll find the odd one that lasts forever but it's such a small percentage it's not worth it.

I'd be getting a newer xc90, q7 or VW 7 seater, think it's a sharan?

Problem is the cars you need are really expensive!

I'd stay away from Ford too. The ones I had long term had EGR issues. They're lovely and cheap to repair when they break but do seem to break a lot.

The newer picassos- grand tourers I think. They're good and probably fit your budget. Full sized seats.
