Hi I was hoping someone could help with my query. My son is nearly 21 and has had the odd job in bars but he would like to try and go to uni but they have told him at the job centre its pointless. Does anyone know if this true? They said even if he went to uni there is no jobs at the end of it. He is not a stupid kid and we both feel going from bar work and supermarkets which is a job that pays and he's grateful for that but he would rather have a career in something more. Sorry if this needs moved that is fine. Thanks in advance.

Thank you @MissMarianHalcombe I didn't know this, thank you. I can't imagine him moving away, I'd be a bit lost.

Thanks so much @Blanketyre I would be so proud of him, I'm already proud as he's a good kid and I know he will do well.

There's a Facebook group called WIWIKAU, what I wish I knew about university, that might be helpful to ask about courses, funding etc. Worth having a look at.

What does he want to do with a history degree?

I work in the field your son is looking at and PP is correct - we regularly turn away hundreds of masters students for one role and the pay is dire.

I'd honestly think twice if I were him. We're investing a lot in apprenticeship style programmes rather than trainee programmes for graduates, as are most of the sector because we see more diverse experience through this route.

Thanks @murasaki

Not sure if you mean museums, but i couldn't find any apprenticeships on the museum jobs website,.and all the assistant jobs require a degree.
