Weekly grocery shop

Where do you do your big grocery shop?

We had deliveries from Asda for a while and they started to not show the cheaper goods online so you had to order the branded or more premium. We moved to Aldi which is ok but doesn't seem that much cheaper? Also a faff with packing bags.
Where do you tend to shop?

Lidl

We get 90% from there and the rest from
Tesco.

MoneyAndPercentages · 03/10/2024 08:26

Morrisons for the big, once a month cupboard stuff delivery, and then M&S for fruit/veg/milk etc.

OolongTeaDrinker · 03/10/2024 08:40

Lidl for basics, and Waitrose/M&S for meat and other fresh produce.

RabbitsRock · 03/10/2024 08:40

Tesco with top ups from Asda. Occasionally go to Lidl but never for my main shop.

Riverd · 03/10/2024 08:42

Sainsburys

abracadabra1980 · 03/10/2024 08:45

Anywhere from my local Coop (like their bread), to whichever supermarket I'm near. We have them all round here but I'd love a Booths - or an Ocado delivery - they seem to exclude the north east.
Aldi is fab for almost 90% of my shop if I'm budgeting.

Saucisses · 03/10/2024 08:50

We use various places. I don't like going into supermarkets. I like shopping locally where I can and are lucky to have amazing suppliers close by.

Weekly delivery from Waitrose.
Meat and eggs at local farm shop.
Fresh bread and pastries from village bakery.
Refills of detergent, shower gel, hand wash etc. from local refill store.
Fish from village fishmonger.
We get a Waitrose wine delivery twice a year and top up with village wine merchant (who sells from the refill store.)
There's a cheese van that visits the next village once a week, and we try to go there when we can.
DH deals with beer by rather regular visits to the local brewery shop.
The odd top up from the village Co-Op for milk and emergency food tech supplies.

MoneyAndPercentages · 03/10/2024 09:18

@Saucisses this is my dream life! 😍 A cheese van!

Enko · 03/10/2024 09:21

Waitrose weekly delivery. Top up from M&S local farm shop and Sainsbury's

Devilsmommy · 03/10/2024 09:25

Tesco's but you need to have the clubcard to get the stuff at the cheaper price. Asda have gone downhill and I find Aldi doesn't stock what I go for. Morrisons can be ok for some things but it's too expensive all round

Bananasplitz97 · 03/10/2024 09:26

I get Asda delivery for main shop. Agree re smart price and would be cheaper to shop at lidl or even asda in person, however for now I am happy to pay for the convenience of not having to food shop.

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 03/10/2024 09:27

Waitrose - once a week. Fruit and veg from there lasts an entire week. Top up with M&S.

Used to use Aldi and Tesco but the fruit and veg went off within 24 hours...or in some cases was already rotting on the shelves. Put me off for life.😫

Saucisses · 03/10/2024 09:35

@MoneyAndPercentages we love our cheese van. When my daughter was asked to draw the important people in her life in reception, she did not draw her parents but drew the man in the cheese van.

AutumnDecor · 03/10/2024 09:44

We have 2 shops delivered each week, one from Tesco and one from Morrison's. Then bits from co op and M&S.

rainbowunicorn · 03/10/2024 09:57

Weekly fruit and veg box delivered.
Fortnightly fish delivery.
Butchers delivery every 6 weeks or so when freezer is looking bare.
Eggs kindly given to us by a friend that has chickens.
Fortnightly farmers market for various bits.
Local Baker for bread, cakes etc.
Most other stuff Aldi and Tesco. Some top ups of salad type stuff from there as well if needed.

Hayley1256 · 03/10/2024 09:58

Sainsburys delivery or sometimes Ocado

grannycake · 03/10/2024 09:59

Aldi once a week - no problems with fruit or veg here. Coop next door for ground coffee & emergency milk or bread

Pickled21 · 03/10/2024 10:09

I prefer online deliveries and it used to be with Asda but they never had fresh fish in. So I switched to Morrisons instead and am happy as there are usually very few substitutions. Price wise our shop comes out at about the same at Asda and Morrisons when I've done a comparison.

Growlybear83 · 03/10/2024 10:37

My main shop is from Ocado but most weeks I do a top up shop at Waitrose, or occasionally Sainsburys or M&S. I also get the cooked salmon that my husband likes for lunch from Aldi if I'm passing.

Fallulah · 03/10/2024 10:41

Sainsburys. The personalised price reductions are pretty good on things we actually buy, I use the petrol vouchers and we build up enough points each year to pay for the Christmas shop.

We do like the bakery at Lidl too and luckily it’s next door!

We get milk and eggs from the milkman - this was an absolute godsend during covid and we’ve kept it going.

Arlanymor · 03/10/2024 10:42

Ocado for main shop - top up with M&S and Tesco. I am a massive bargain hunter though - yellow labels galore in my fridge.

Cobblersorchard · 03/10/2024 10:57

To be fair although I said up thread 90% from Lidl I did leave out the local suppliers we also use.

We used to get eggs from our own hens but they are too old now so we have next doors.

We have a brilliant farm shop for meat in the village, we buy a lot from them as they do great offers especially if you can be creative and turn bbq packs into something when the weather has been poor for example. They also reduce really good free range whole chicken to £5 when close to use by dates so we get them and cook to use in different ways.

We also have a pricey but lovely award winning artisan bakery in the village so we do get sourdough and nice bits from them.

I agree the fruit and veg is hit and miss in cheap supermarkets- we get given various things from people’s gardens which is great and if we get from Lidl we only buy what we need for the next 24-48hrs max. Which means going 3 times a week. We have a small orchard so have apples, figs and plums in season.

But Lidl is great, especially for DD’s snacks like yoghurts and the copious quantities of german ham she likes. We also love all the toiletries and cleaning products/detergent. But things like Lurpak are usually cheaper in Tesco and DD doesn’t like Lidl filtered milk so we get that in Tesco too.

I also like Aldi but Lidl suits us better generally so we do more there.

Pre CoL we used to do £800+ a month at Ocado/Waitrose. Now we do £5-600 at Lidl plus bits.

HouseofHolbein · 03/10/2024 11:05

Morrisons. I get discount as husband and daughter work there. Plus it's my closest supermarket and I'm lazy 🤣🤣
