Having dog PTS friday, feel so sad and scared...

I was told last night my little 12yr old dog has high stage lymphoma. She developed a lump on her neck about 10 ago.

She has deteriorated the past few days and barely moves off the sofa. She is eating a little and having a bit of water.

I feel the best decision is PTS so she is no longer suffering and the vet and I discussed this together.
I am scared for Friday, I dont know what to expect as never had a pet PTS before.

Just looking for a hand hold xx

Oh love, how awful for you. I'm so sorry.
Our darling dog was PTS last year. Like your dear pup she was old, unwell, tired and it was time to go.

The vet was so kind, reassuring and professional that we didn't have to worry about a thing. We were in a quiet little side room where we sat on a sofa, held our girl in our arms as the vet gave her two injections and she just gently slipped away just like she was falling asleep. It took moments.

Afterwards we sat with her for as long as we needed and it was comforting to see her at peace wrapped in her blanket.
I cannot pretend that we weren't (or that we aren't still) heartbroken but the actual passing was exactly as we could have wanted for her.
I know nobody can say anything that will make this better for you, but you will have so many happy memories of fantastic times with your beloved girl and will know that when the end came you did the right thing for her.
I'll be thinking of you.

I'm so sorry.
When we had to have ours pts because of cancer, I remembered some advice given here. We took him for a last walk, then at the surgery we all cuddled him, and I fed him pieces of chicken from my hand while he had the injection. He wasn't at all afraid.
I believe that the main thing is to not let them know what's happening so they won't get upset seeing that you're upset. It does mean keeping a stiff upper lip until it's over and falling to pieces afterwards! I just said to him he's going to have a nice sleep and concentrated on making a fuss of him. He knew he was loved, I'm sure.

I really feel for you, I've been through this many times with pets now and it's devastating. Let yourself grieve however you need to and remind yourself it would have been selfish to prolong her life.

I'm so sorry for you and your lovely dog. It never gets easier, but it's the right decision. Don't worry about Friday; as PP said it's very peaceful, and she won't be in any pain. Please don't be tempted to leave the room though, she will want you to stay with her. I often think we give pets a much more dignified death than we give humans.

She was my nans dog and my nan passed away 2.5 years ago and asked me to take her. She's had a new lease of life and was like a puppy just 10 days ago. I feel like Ive always got a bit of my Nan with me but I also agree I dont want her in discomfort x

Hope you’re ok OP! Try and see it as a blessing that she was like a puppy 10 days ago, she didn’t suffer. Dogs live in the moment and I am sure she knew she was loved. ❤️
