Does anyone's DC have a Baby Annabell? Is it worth it?

My DD is turning 5 soon and is very much into pretend play at the moment, as well as the fact that she is constantly trying to hug the cat and put him in her toy pram 😂 so I thought the time might have come to get her a 'special' doll as her main birthday present. (She has a doll already but she has had it for a while, it's quite a basic one and she doesn't really play with it any more.)

I have been looking into different dolls which make sounds etc and thought the Baby Annabell looked to be good quality, but the price tag is quite steep. Just wondering if anyone's DC has one of these and if so, whether you think it's worth it. Thank you!

My day much prefered her tiny treasures (from argos) than her baby annabrll.
I feel they're a bit clunky too, especially for little ones

Thanks @delilabell - just had a look and they look lovely, but I was hoping to get one that makes sounds etc, to make it different from DD's current doll which doesn't do anything.

We have a baby Annabelle but never put batteries in it. (Prefer kids just use their imagination) Dunno how many types there are but ours is nicer to hold than babyborn as it has a soft but weighted body.

I had a tiny tears as a kid (Baby Annabelle didn’t yet exist - my cousin got one and I remember being fascinated because she burped). I still preferred pushing the cat around in my dolls pram though. He didn’t mind, think he enjoyed it.

We actually just got one, though she looks a little different than I expected. The kids keep moving her into my room when I sleep, so I wake up and find her staring at me! Not sure where they got the idea, maybe Elf on the Shelf.

Yes absolutely worth it
Got one when she was 3.
Still plays with it now at 10.
Much more than Baby Born as well

@MeowCatPleaseMeowBack 😂😂😂
@BarbaraVineFan most Baby Anabelle owners I know end up removing the batteries because the crying gets annoying.
I vote for a Tiny Treasures doll. They're adorable.

My DD loved her baby Annabelle. She’s nice to hold, does enough “things” like making sounds, crying, sleeping, sucking etc that the child feels like they have a “real” baby.

Ours was so greatly loved she had to be held, carried etc exactly like a real baby at all times - there were several occasions when passers-by stopped to coo at her before realising she was just a doll 😂

We never bought the super expensive baby annabel clothes, because she fitted into 0-3m baby things just fine so was dressed in babygrows etc.

And we never took the batteries out - if you love her enough she doesn’t cry much because the crying is soothed by stroking her forehead or putting the dummy in

My 4 year old also loves her baby Annabell. She got bored of her smaller doll that didn't do anything, but loves all the little sounds and dummy/bottle sucking etc so plays with Annabell loads.

Thanks everyone - I've taken the plunge and ordered one! Also ordered a few little clothes but no other accessories - are there any that are really good that I could maybe put on her Christmas list?

@BarbaraVineFan a little toy cot would be good. Annabel needs somewhere to sleep 🙂

Tarantella6 · 02/10/2024 07:33

The things that got played with most in our house were a double pushchair (so some soft toys can come along for the ride) and a changing bag with a nappy, bottle etc in it.

We had a cot and dc were delighted to open it on Xmas day but in reality it ended up as storage. They coslept 😁

We had Baby Annabelle and my grand daughter loved her and played with her when she was even 8/9. Quite often the poor doll was ill and GD was the doctor. We bought the doll prem-baby clothes in Matalan sale. She came to us second hand from a car boot sale and we passed her on free of charge to a little girl whose parents couldn’t afford to buy. I would say she is well worth whatever you have to pay for her.
