Can I use fabric dye on a mohair & wool jumper?

I've got two light cream very fine knit mohair blend jumpers. I would love to give them a bit of a refresh by using some fabric dye to change their colour.

I know wool, mohair, cashmere and natural fibres like this are a bit tricky to handle and wash. Does anyone have any experience or advice dying a mohair blend jumper?

I've looked on YouTube and have found a few cashmere & wool dying videos, but the only mohair examples I've found are for mohair yarn rather than a finished jumper.

The key takeaway from the videos is that at least for wool and cashmere, the yarns can actually get very hot when brought up to temperature slowly. It's the shock of going straight into very hot water and also being agitated that will make the fibres shrink so I'm assuming this would also apply with a mohair blend?

I'd only try if I was prepared to lose both.

Can't be done in a washing machine as they will shrink to doll size jumpers.
Could use acid dyes and heat in large saucepan on the stove, but you won't ever be able to use that pan again for food
Results may be uneven uptake of the dye done this way.

Just no

You would need a dye for wool rather than one for fabric. From memory there are different dyes for plant and animal fibres.
