Endo- Ablation recovery?

Spareincoming · 01/10/2024 11:26

I’m having an endo/uterine ablation soon under general anaesthetic but feel quite under informed about the after - can anyone share what their recovery was like and what I can expect.
Anything I should make sure I have in the house - pain killers etc?
Thank you.

Hopeful bump?

I had this done about twelve years ago (by the method involving electric current). I had a few weeks of bleeding afterwards (a bit unpleasant as the blood smelt burnt) but I've otherwise had no bleeding whatsoever since, except a slight smear once or twice a year.

I was told to use pads not tampons for the few weeks afterwards (so stock up on those) and, yes, painkillers do help in the first few days.

You obviously also need bomb-proof contraception forever thereafter as it's risky to your health to get pregnant after an ablation. Actually, one thing that took me a little bit by surprise afterwards was my slight sadness at having to fully accept that I would never have any more children. But, on the other hand, the procedure completely changed my general quality of life, so I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

All the very best.

I had the Novasure endometrial ablation about 7 years ago under GA. Best thing I ever did, better in about a week x

@Gulbekian I’m having it to combat heavy bleeding and hoping the bleeding afterwards won’t be as bad as the bleeding I regularly have, if that makes sense.
I’m meant to be at a wedding 5 days later so desperately hoping to make it.

I had a novasure ablation 10 years ago and it was literally life changing!
Light GA and I was eating a sandwich an hour later!
Slight burning smell afterwards( not surprisingly) a day of very light cramps, and not a drop of blood ever since
You may find you have a light discharge but by day 5 you should be fine to attend the wedding.

Thank you. I feel like I’ve been told a lot about the before and during and nothing about the after other than a sentence in the letter saying you may wish to bring a sanitary towel with you.

I had both endoscopy and ablation about 7 years ago. I didn’t respond well to the GA that time, been fine before and since, so it was an overnight stay for me. It was my third endoscopy and I think that takes longer to recover from than just the ablation. The gas is uncomfortable and needs to work it’s way out of you, I had 10 days off work and I did need it although I had a very active job then.

Spareincoming · 02/10/2024 09:47

@Polkadottablecloth thank you. I have a run of 8 days that I don’t need to physically go to work - I’ll have to do some work from home -
hoping that will be enough, though I could take sickness leave I assume.

@Spareincoming

Hi there,
Just found myself thinking about you. How did it go? (presuming it has already happened!)

Spareincoming · 09/11/2024 17:58

Hello @Gulbekian thank you for thinking of me!
It has happened; 3 and a half weeks ago; I’m doing ok; recovery from the anaesthetic took a lot longer than I expected, I was rough for best part of the following week and achieved very little of my working from home work.
I made it to the wedding but it was a very tiring day!
I’m at the point now where I’d like the post-op discharge to stop now please, it reminds me of post partum bleeding, necessary but after a while, plain annoying!

Shame I didn't seen this a month ago. I had novasure and my tubes clipped.

I was in hospital 3 days due to the pain and my recovery was fairly slow.

Absolutely worth it, got my life back.

BoobyDazzler · 09/11/2024 18:48

I had novasure 5 years ago and like PP said it was absolutely life changing.

I don’t remember any real recovery beyond a bit of watery discharge. They signed me
off work for a week and as I get paid sick I I took it, I could probably have gone straight back to work, though.
