What the fuck is wrong with Halifax/HBOS?

Honestly I'm sick of this. Seems to me that banks go down MORE often these days than they did in the past.

A month or two ago my salary was delayed.

Today, Halifax can't display any transactions on online banking and when you phone to speak to someone they simply say "this service is not available due to current circumstances, goodbye"

I'm trying to pay the plumber's initial call out charge so I can get booked in for the actual work - currently on day 5 without heating!

It's 2024, this is ridiculous!

Yep, I've finally managed to get through on the phone and they confirm they're having a "complete meltdown". No transactions, no payments, no phone support.

Seems to be a regular occurrence these days at every bank.

And yet they want us to give up cash and go completely digital? Ha!

Was in the phone to Lloyd's bank just now and apparently their commercial atms and things are down and the lady couldn't deal with my query until later on today ( or ring back tomorrow)
The app is working ok

It's never been a real bank.

Halifax, Lloyds and Bank of Scotland are all having issues this morning, unsurprising as they are all part of the same banking group.

Halifax was fine to log into a few minutes ago, but I was only doing a quick balance check, nothing more complex.

Current DownDetector status in the pic below, bloody useful little app.

Ah that makes sense. My Halifax payment for a school trip wouldn't go through but did on a different card. Then I went to check my banking app (not Halifax but another of those named) and it is showing no transactions. Sounds like a big issue.

I've never been one to switch banks. Had my accounts there for 30 years since I was a teenager. Frankly £100 is not worth the hassle of me having to learn a new system. And I've never believed the guarantee that all my direct debits would be switched over seamlessly. Any bank is likely to be shite anyway.

I believed Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert that switching gas and electric provider would be easy - ended up going to the Ombudsman and it took 18 months to fix (huge confusion where bastards Eon and Scottish Power kept confusing me with various neighbours). So I'm VERY loathe to switch anything these days!

A few weeks ago the Halifax refused my debit card when I wanted to pay into a fund. The fund took a cheque and that went through. Then I tried to move some money into an investment but the Halifax blocked it. They said when I eventually got through that they thought I might be being scammed. It took two hours on the phone to not get anywhere and they suggested that I go into a branch with a passport. Another hour on the phone in the branch having taken in passport ( it had to be up to date) and then although I took money out to check it was working in the branch I still couldn’t transfer money on line when I got home. The person on the phone in the branch had forgotten to do something. A couple of weeks later I tried to get some information from Lloyds on line and couldn’t. All internet for them down. It seems you have to have at least three bank accounts and make sure there is enough money in each to live.

HBOS have never really given me any problems but a 100% meltdown is not ok! And as I say it does seem to be various banks and on a regular basis. Virgin (formerly Clydesdale) seem to be the worst for it actually. (That's the one we use at work)

Agree that it's a good idea to have bank accounts with various banks. It's a PITA though from a "life admin" point of view juggling that. Eg remembering to use the cards so they don't go dormant etc.

Yep same here, apparently in September I had zero transactions! I did manage to send my sister some money this morning so I must have just got in there before it all went down.
