Having a partner with ADHD

Been with my husband for 6 years now married for 1. He has ADHD and I still struggle with some traits of this. His mood swings. His outbursts. The switching one task to the next etc

does anyone have any tips how to help? And how to cope? I’m finding it hard

and we have 2 young kids. Our eldest is 3 in a month so I just don’t know how I explain the complexity of ADHD to young kids but I feel I need to ?

I suspect my DH has ADHD. It's not easy.
Does yours have a diagnosis?

My DP has ADHD, it's a big struggle at times. We've had some books that have been really helpful understanding each other perspective. He also had a lot of therapy a few years ago when we were really struggling. It was a specialist and he was about £250 a session but we'll worth the money.

How does he manage it? Mine uses exercise and meditation- when he has lapses of either he's markedly different. He's not had medication since he was a child but has recently been been considering restarting.

I wouldn't be standing for regular, uncaused outbursts ADHD or not. He needs to manage his condition. Certain things are basically unavoidable and accepted at my house- eg piles of doom, constant search for keys, being so insanely early everywhere as he's so panicked about being late but outbursts-nope!

I haven't even considered having to explain to my kids anything, they just think that's their dad. I'm not sure they'd notice anything other than he messy and can be very high/low energy at different times.

Why do you need to explain anything to your children??

I have adhd and it wouldn't occur to me to sit down and explain to a child what it means. It's just life.

He does need the gym / exercise to manage it

i want him to get therapy or discuss it with someone because he doesn’t manage it outside of this like the gym is his release but he finds general life quite tasking

Filling out forms housework etc. it goes down to me usually because I can’t deal with him getting. Worked up

even stuff with the kids I have to deal with the tantrums and kick offs because he can’t deal with the sound

Is there any recommended books? I think he agrees he needs to manage his outbursts and spacing out

i, don’t want to say tell him off, but I do for the outbursts. I know it’s part of ADHD but he can try and minimise it and not just say it’s because of ADHD, I felt I had to explain to my kids because I don’t know they’ll see him have a random outburst then be fine a few seconds later

i I thought they should know that’s him etc

i dont know xxim trying to. Navigate too x
