Would you go to the gp. Possible blood clot.

In the days following a seven hour long car journey, so sat in one position for hours, I developed a small lump in my calf. My calf muscle also feel tight and swollen inside my leg. I’m a bit concerned it could be an a blood clot. Eight years ago I had the same symptoms after being on crutches for months and ignored it. The next night in ended up in A and E with a pulmonary embolism after ignoring the blood clot symptoms. Would you seek medical attention in my situation. I don’t want to waste a gp appointment but it’s not getting any better.

I’ve been back for a scan today which has confirmed a dvt. I’ve been given meds for the next three months and will have testing to see whether there is some kind of genetic issue. Thanks so much for your kind words.

Phew! Did they give you Rivaroxoban/Xarelto? Take care of yourself.

They gave me Apixaban. I won’t need INR testing with that med.

My Dd had pulmonary embolisms, all her clotting disorder tests were negative. She’s on thinners for life now. Chances are after two clotting events you’re going to be on thinners for life. Which is good if it means no more clots I guess. Glad you went and got checked.

This is what DH has every time we go on holiday. Very glad they caught it, OP!

I have none valvular atrial fibrillation ( I'm very young - 30)
I'm on edoxaban for life now.
I feel alot "safer" being on thinners even though I know the risk isn't 0.
I also had a VTE in my left brachial cephalic vein due to a tesio line for kidney failure
Hope you are ok OP and I'm wishing you a speedy recovery xx

OP treat long car journeys like long haul flights! Wear compression socks as well as stopping as often as is practical for a walk. I too have survived huge double PEs and am lucky not to have to take daily apixaban as the PEs were deemed to be the result of a 'series of unfortunate events'. I have the most cheerful compression socks I could find and wear them as a precaution in certain circumstances.....
