Eat pinning - where offers procedure for children?

Spire only offer this service for adults and unfortunately the NHS no longer offer this service. I’ve been advised to go private.

Does anyone know where we can get this done that accepts childre?

Edited : Ear pinning not eat pinning 🤦🏻‍♀️

How old is your child? Do they specifically want their ears pinned? I certainly wouldn’t put a child through plastic surgery until they were old enough to consent/have concerns about their ears.

A friend went privately to the Portland for her young DD.

When my ds was in for surgery a couple of months ago at a private Spire hospital, the child in the bay next door was having his ears pinned back so id contact whichever spire hospital is closest to you and ask for an appointment with Plastic surgery consultant.

Awcw1234 · 29/09/2024 20:16

My child is 10 and wants the procedure before high school next year. Her father and several members of his family have had it done as sticky out ears run through the family.

I contacted our local Spire hospital and they told me (in a snotty way) that they do not carry out cosmetic surgery on children.

My child is perfect in my eyes but I can understand why she wants the procedure x

Private only I would think.

Wish it had been done for me. I have a horrific set of Prince Charles ears, coupled with very fine hair so they just poke through. I eventually found a way to disguise it- long hair in a loose chignon behind them.

Get them fixed if at all possible

We are looking to. She describes her ears as “elf ears”. She is perfect in my eyes. She has thick hair but she ears still poke through quite significantly. She won’t wear her hair up and is very self conscious of her ears at 10 😭
Spire is private but they’ve said no so not sure where to try next.

Do you know that the NHS won't do it?

It's area dependent - for example it's done in Derbyshire, to pick a place at random https://www.derbyshiremedicinesmanagement.nhs.uk/assets/Clinical-Policies/Clinical_Policies/Cosmetic/cosmetic/Pinnaplasty.pdf

Thenose · 29/09/2024 21:04

I think it's included in the AXA health kids' comprehensive cover. I don't know whether there are conditions. It wasn't relevant to me so I just glanced over it. Worth checking.

Musiclover234 · 29/09/2024 21:11

Some NHS ENT surgeons do still do this. I think the criteria is very though and may need to be applied for funding etc to boards but it’s not a blanket no across the NHS.

After bouncing around on the phone to a few places that said they took children for pinning but didn’t, we did lots of reading and read reviews and ended up at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital (St Thomas’) and couldn’t be happier with the care and attention received. Child friendly environment and world class kids surgeon and anaesthetist https://guysandstthomasspecialistcare.co.uk/treatments/ear-pinning-pinnaplasty/

She glad you found somewhere Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 22/05/2025 12:12

Can you get it done privately in an NHS hospital. I’m sure our plastic surgeons still do it.

Hello, was this a private procedure? If so, did you just contact them directly? If you don’t mind me asking, how much was it? We still haven’t found anywhere!

How old is your daughter and how did you go about arranging it please? Did you have to wait long? Excellent that you’ve managed to time it so she can recover over the school holidays!

She is 13. I just asked her gp and he put a referral in we waited a few months for that then saw the surgeon at the end of December so I’d say 8months ish altogether, we are on day 2/3 now and the pain is progressively worse we ended up at A&e last night as over the counter meds wasn’t touching it. So if you go ahead make sure you get sent home with stronger pain relief if needed. I knw it will all be worth it in the end but is hard seeing them in so much pain 😢

Kirstlou88 · 24/07/2025 15:57

When the surgeon agreed to operate ,he then send gp a letter then they have to agree also as have to get funding for it. But was pretty straight forward x

Oh gosh, is she starting to feel better now?
Did you daughter ask the GP herself for the operation? Is she pleased with the results?

Kirstlou88 · 25/07/2025 21:03

today it’s a lot better thank god , still very swollen but she’s looking more alive today 😅, I rang the doctors for her and they did the referral without even seeing her. The surgeon asks her lots of questions on why she wants it done ect

, she’s had 4 different upstyles already 😂she’s very happy with them ,it’s been a lot of years since iv seen her with hair up bless her

, was trying to upload pictures to show you the difference but am not sure how, she had no cartlidge removed she had the permanent stitches inside and re shape then dissolve stitches outside

Yes private and we filled in the form on the webpage and they got back to us really quickly and we met the surgeon soon after. The operation and recovery was really smooth. Total for the operation etc was around £4k I think. Hope that’s helpful
