My daughter had swollen neck glands, headache and temperature for a week now.. also aches/chills/ears hurt… just feeling generally awful and just lying in bed. Tested negative for covid and flu (home tests). Anyone else in London area caught anything similar recently??

I've had similar I'm on week 2

My son had headache, no fever and tiredness for week. He was waking up with headaches so I rang gp who sent us to optician who said photos from back of eyes was reassuring.. it went away after a full week..

I guess it’s not abnormal for a virus with temperature to last this long, she just hasn’t improved. Dr sent us away with scorn on Thursday so I suppose it’s just a case of rest/fluids/ibuprofen… but I feel quite anxious about it…

OP does she have a sore throat? can you order a strep A test online? I had similar earlier in the year, turned out to be scarlet fever, was turned away twice by doctors told it’s viral and just to rest but it was getting worse so did it myself. 4 weeks later and I had enough and ordered one and tested positive, i really needed antibiotics and got them as soon as I spoke to NHS 111 and explained about my positive test as it was just getting worse.

I've had similar but covid test was posted. My adult daughter started saying she had the same symptoms after a couple of days. Took a covid test and it was negative.

Depending on age, consider Kawasaki

Please if you haven't already take your DD back to the GP or urgent care if she has had a high temperature for this long.
My DD was similar last year , on day 4 she saw a doctor who insisted it was covid despite the negative tests.
Went back on day 6 and GP sent us to hospital, apparently a temperature for more than 5 days is always taken seriously and needs investigation (one of the reasons is the previously mentioned kawasaki)With my DD it was an unusually presenting case of scarlet fever which turn to invasive strep and she was in hospital for 5 nights. This could have been avoided /minimised if the previous doctor hadn't dismissed as covid.
Not to worry you as probably a virus but could also be an infection which could soon be cleared with antibiotics.

@Tiggstt how is your daughter?

Tiggstt · 02/10/2024 14:22

Thanks for asking… temperature went down after 7days but she’s still very wiped out and not great.

What has me absolutely grinding teeth today is the GP sent her to A&E ((7 hour wait to rule out meningitis). This was last Tuesday. Called GP to ask for test results and they say we need to contact A&E as it’s nothing to do with them…. Now A&E say GP needs to give us results ( of EBV test & others) and GP says they can’t help, we need to contact A&E directly…and round and round we go… đŸ˜¬
