I'm thinking of taking dc2 ( who is obsessed with bugs)
As its about 4 hrs from us we'll need to stay over.
Has anyone been? Is there enough to do for a day?
Thanks

I also love Norwich, because it's small and quiet and historic.

Bug parc really is quite far from Norwich though, a taxi would cost a fortune - if DS can tolerate the bus then bus to Dereham and then taxi might be better.

Norwich museum has a fairly large Natural History section with lots of bugs and they do a quiet / sensory / autism morning on Sundays.

Roar is not loud it is just a big park with big dinosaur models. It has a high ropes course for an additional fee, a 4x4 trailer tour to see the deer, a water splash pd which probably won't be open this time of year, a soft play area which DS is probably too big for but that's the only loud section and easy to avoid.

Bewilderwood is fabulous, it's basically a big adventure playground in the woods but gives with the Bewilderwood books.

I'd check opening times for all as it's not unusual for places to be shut midweek.

That train ticket looks expensive if you haven't already got a Railcard the friends and family one might be perfect.

I love the bug parc, it is small though, a couple of hours not a full day thing. But if your kid loves bugs he'll be in for a treat. If you see the owner Martin (he's there almost every day) stop him for a chat, he's lovely and he will absolutely talk your ear off and answer a million questions. He gave us a talk on some of the bugs last time :)

The handling experience was really good too.

And Norwich is lovely.

Norwich is lovely "in YOUR opinion".

I just did another search on mumsnet for "Norwich", to see what other people are saying about it.

The first thread that came up was

"Is Norwich Over-rated".

The poster said that she walked around, and that it was dull, boring and rundown.

Anytime I've been there, I can't wait to get out the place.

Not sure why you aren't revealing your child's sex. I'm presuming female.

I took my nephews in the summer.. aged 5 and 8. Both found it quite underwhelming really and within an hour were wanting toi leave. Thankfully we were holidaying in great Yarmouth at the time.

OP isn't going to Norwich and didn't ask anyone's opinion of Norwich! She's going to an activity outside of Norwich, and someone suggested going to Norwich too. Nobody asked you or the OP to go and live in Norwich forever either. If you don't like it, don't go there. I didn't really like Liverpool. I probably won't go there again. What I won't do is look for threads about Liverpool in order to slag it off several times in a thread that's completely irrelevant to what people think of Liverpool and just about someone who wondered what the museum was like and then look for other people who hate Liverpool just to back up my completely irrelevant point!

The high ropes at Roarr is part of the entrance fee...we went on it twice one year when it was quiet! They also do bug handling, a snail and a cockroach last time, but only at set times.
