We live in a narrow road with all the parking/garages behind, apart from our opposite neighbours who have parking at the side. They have prestige cars, and when they start them we have main beam headlights directed straight into our house for around ten minutes multiple times a day (don’t ask me why it’s for so long, but it is. They also rev their cars for long periods, but it’s the headlights that bother me more)

They are not the kind of people you can talk to. Not in a scary way, more because they are very snooty. We’ve all lived here a long time but mostly they don’t even say hello in passing (we do)

I know this sounds really petty but I was thinking of putting a mirror in the window reflecting outwards, so they see how annoying it is, and maybe be more thoughtful. The full beam is all times of the day, not just evening

In case someone asks, I didn’t mention prestige cars because of jealousy, I just don’t know if perhaps there’s a reason for the full beam (its ridiculously bright ) for so long every time. They do film them selves getting in and out quite a lot, so it may be more to do with that? I don’t know, it’s just pissing me off

I can't be any help but interested in what others say as I have a similar problem, but all night with a neighbour's motion sensor light! Also ridiculously bright and shines right into our second bedroom (due to the level of the ground that her house is on). Was also considering a mirror!

Im going to do it, I think.

This might be useful.

I don't have an issue with headlights but I do have an issue with unnecessary pollution and I just ask people nicely to cut their engines, which is usually fine.

As you say, perhaps it's due to the type of cars they have (I know nothing) but it's inconsiderate and possibly illegal, according to the Highway Code.

It's quite passive aggressive, but clever and not illegal.

Smart solution

xyz111 · 28/09/2024 20:06

I would speak to them. Or at least put a note through the door.

mindutopia · 28/09/2024 21:19

I can’t get over them filming themselves getting in and out of their cars. 😂 What wankers!

Leaving your vehicle engine idling for long periods is an offence, and is prohibited by Section 42 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

TigerOnTour · 28/09/2024 21:28

@chisanunian I misunderstood, I thought they were asking if the mirrors stuff was illegal!
