10 year old voice "breaking"

My 10 year old (almost 11) has started to complain of his throat being dry/his voice feeling "funny". I have noticed it keeps sort of fluxuating and sort of cutting out, going coarser. He has no throat pain/ redness and is otherwise very healthy, he has had growth spurt recently too. Could this be the start of puberty or is it likely something else? Not sure if it's worth a Dr's visit or if it's normal for his age - although it definitely feels young! Wondering if anyone else has had similar experience.

Yep

My son’s voice started breaking at 11. 10 is early but it sounds likely I

Does he have other signs of puberty - e.g. has he had a recent growth spurt as it is on the early side (although not impossibly early if he has other signs).

It could be worth a quick trip the GP - just in case something else is going on particularly if he's not showing many other signs yet.

Caught something on the Radio the other day with a DJ talking about how a listener had noticed signs their voice had changed and led to a trip to the GP and a diagnosis. So there are other things that can affect the vocal cords which could be checked out given his age.

Thank you, like I say he's had a growth spurt recently but is still quite little. No other signs like hair yet that I've noticed. Very good point about other things impacting vocal chords so I'll speak to the GP to be on the safe side. I wasn't sure if I was being a bit silly for considering puberty this early. Ahhh he's still my baby! Thought I'd have a few years before smelly pits and gravelly voices!

My 11 year old had (and is still having at 12) a big growth spurt and had hair growing down there before the voice began to change. No hair in armpits though. So if no other signs of puberty maybe take him to be sure
