Abnormal smears and hysterectomy

Hi
Name changed as outing.
When I was 21 I had bleeding after sex and pain. Went to GP and was lucky as I was below the age for a smear test at the time but she agreed to do one anyway. It came back with high grade changes and I had to go to the hospital for a colposcopy. Abnormal cells were monitored and went away on their own.

A few years later I had the same thing happen again but this time I had to get them removed by LLETZ treatment. I also found on I have the HPV virus.

Come to this week and found out I have another abnormal smear and have another colposcopy scheduled. My Nan had cancer of the womb or cervix and I just feel worried this is going to happen to me one day. Am I able to ask for a hysterectomy? Would they even say yes? I'm now in my early/ mid 30s.

Thanks so much for reading.

Do you already have children?
From what I understand there is reluctance to do hysterectomies until the family is complete, whatever that might mean.
You are being monitored for changes and usually these kinds of cancers are slow to develop, so try and keep in mind that all the check up and what not is aimed at catching it early on.
I know that it is very worrying and I hope that you have people in real life to talk to.
Best of luck.

I had a hysterectomy at 34 due to a very similar history and was facing my 3rd colposcopy with a LLETZ after my first.

I already had 3 children and my tubes had been tied during delivery of my 3rd child, which was a second c-section.

My consultant didn't suggest it, but I asked and he was happy to perform it. I was a private patient and had the surgery about 10 days later as he had a slot available. No regrets, but it was major abdominal surgery with a long recovery period.

Good luck and hope you get the best treatment.
