Savings pots

Do you use savings pots to split up your savings? If so, what savings pots do you have?

I’ve got £1,060 in my Emergency Fund and just £67 in my Home Improvements Fund, at the moment.

I’ve been trying to save in both pots interchangeably, but it’s difficult to save anything at all these days.

I have three savings accounts, to try and get the most interest/return possible each month rather than putting £ in lots of different accounts.

However on my excel budget tracker I have different ‘pots’ listed which outlines exactly what the savings are for.

Emergency savings fund - (6 months household outgoings/bills/typical spends - basically DH salary). Would like to get this to 12 months eventually.

Xmas/Bday presents pot

Car/House repairs pot

My maternity pot (i’m self employed and on maternity in new year)

My tax due pot

Will soon have a savings pot for baby

We’re not planning for any holidays the next couple of years, but I know people usually have a pot for that too.

I have
Short term 1. Holidays 2. Household
Mid term garden office
Long term / emergency fund currently about 3 months salary in there , I d like to get to six . If there are no emergencies this will let me retire earlier .

I dont have the means to save alot. But I have 3 accounts not a huge amount in each but I put a bit in each every payday.
1 - highest interest account for long term savings. (I have roundups go into this account)
2 - savings account for birthdays/Christmas (anything I sell on vinted the funds go in here)
3 - short term savings for school holidays/clothes/school trips/kids pocket money and bus fare or family days out. (I transfer child benefit into this account)

We also have a help to save account and do a shares savings through my husbands work.

Yes. I use Starling. I have pots for everything and they all have targets. Some sweep money automatically every month and have DDs set for regular bills.

No, find it far easier if everything is just lumped together and put in the best/most convenient place(s).
What would you do if one pot did not contain sufficient funds for an unexpected expense (car repair for instance) but you had money in a different account, would you "borrow" money from the other pot to keep the car on the road or just say "insufficient money in that pot so the car is off the road" and do without it?

Our money is split into two (although in multiple accounts due to limits) which are classed as accessable money and long term savings.
PB's and NS&I savings for accessable money.
ISA's for long term savings.
We also keep a float in our current account which should be able to cover any unexpected bills and we have found this is the most useful thing of all.
