As above. Came out of the blue 3 months ago and confirmed with emergency endoscopy (as I lost weight very fast) PPis not worked... 7 months wait (!) for Gastro.
I've cut out all alcohol (sob) and my GP has advised cutting out all dairy too. My diet is usually pretty good, simple food, home grown veggies from my allotment etc...but I do love cheese, and can only tolerate very small meals at the moment so can't eat lots of pulses.

I LOVE cheese...and real butter :( What are the tastiest alternatives? I need to keep my calories up as I'm now heading for underweight, which I do not want..I look haggard enough as it is.
No meat, no dairy, nothing acidic... (and I hate bananas)... what CAN I eat?

Just be very careful at taking dietary advice from a bored GP.
I think it's actually quite reckless to suggest cutting out all dairy to someone who is already a vegetarian.

The cause of Gastritis will have nothing to do with your diet. It will either be bacterial or caused by mechanical damage to your stomach lining - medications, acid overproduction or serious acid overconsumption.

All you can do in the meanwhile, is treat your stomach gently, as not to irritate it.
Dietary fats and oils can actually help with that. There's a reason why some medicines like Ibuprofen are safer with/after a meal or with a cup of yoghurt or milk.

I'd be inclined to follow a diet similar to that advised to people with acid reflux issues. Goodbye tomatoes (unless with plenty of cream!)

Also, have you had your B12 tested?
Deficiency is strongly linked to gastritis.
Sometimes the deficiency is first (diet?), sometimes it's caused by the bacterial illness itself.

I was given B12 injections in hospital at the same time as I was medicated against H Pylori bacteria as part of 'belt and braces' approach.
Though not sure if NHS is up to that job anymore 😐
