How long should I give Job to see if I like it?

I've just got a job that I'm not too sure about. It's for supermarket.

I'm currently self employed, but UC say I'm required to earn more so here I am. I've applied for loads of part time jobs and this one has come through first. I've had interview, induction day and start tomorrow.

I'm just not feeling it. I'm not used to working with other people and I think this is what my biggest worry is. This supermarket has 100s of employees. Also very early starts.

Obviously, I will see how things go and who knows it might be ok.

I'm thinking of giving it a month or two then if I'm really struggling, look for something else.

Is that a reasonable time would you say?

I think if you know it’s not for you then continue to look in the background and apply for new positions.

Do this alongside working there.

I would go for a supermarket but I cannot live around their freezers. Literally do not feel comfortable or relaxed being so cold. Even when I shop, I never go to the freezers, just to the normal t aisles - thanks God meat is not the food to die for in my family

If you start tomorrow how do you know you don't like it? Also if you quit how will that affect your UC?

I would say if your UC depends on it you just deal with it and carry on. If you don’t they could sanction you.

Just to add - keep looking for other jobs as well though, don’t wait to look. Keep looking now.

oh yes, i think it takes 6 weeks to settle in.
give it 3 months if you can but remember you meet all sorts of people, staff, in work, have a thick skin

You haven't even started the actual role yet! You can't really give it an exact- 1 week, 1mth, 64 days etc. Start with an open mind and see how it goes. If you feel its really not right for you, its much easier to find a new job- when currently working in one.

A few years ago I started a new role, and within hours, thought it wasn't right. No induction, general confusion from seniors, no log in access to computers and overbearing managers (who had less experience in the are than me!). Some things settled, but it was toxic and had the most horrid, helicopter managers. I ended up staying 8mths, mainly because it looked better on a CV than changing jobs every month. There was 1 lady who was absolutely lovely- whom I'm still friends with 6yrs after leaving.

I wouldn't leave unless I had another job to go to.
