I'm in the market for a new washing machine

I'm having a terrible time trying to get one. I picked out a Bosch machine or there's also a Samsung eco bubble on offer too. However I live at home with my mother and she wants to choose the machine but she also wants me to pay for half of it but I don't get a say in what to pick. She wants to go with the same rand that we had before - zanussi - and I found a machine however there's a problem in that there's no filter or drain hose. It's not on the front of the machine and if it's located at the back of the machine; that makes no sense. It has to be located within easy reach.

It's all just a nightmare. It shouldn't be this complicated to get a machine. I read only to avoid brands like beko, indesit, candy, Hotpoint.

I like the two models of machines that I picked out but my mother is having none of it. She wants to stay with zanussi and that's it, about that and no more about it from her. I was trying to help but she was so rude and sarcastic and now I have pulled away and looks like we will do without a machine for another week or two. The thing is I could buy a machine today online and get it delivered by tomorrow but she's being so ignorant about it.

I'm six months into owning an EBAC washing machine and really happy with it.i really like that it has a seven year parts and labour guarantee. That's one less thing to worry about.

Our eco bubble was terrible and 2 years ago it left this earth to the graveyard.

I was trawling through options and they were all pretty dire so I took a punt on a Haier HW100-BD14979U1 I-Pro.

Got it from mark's electrical and my punt worked. It's direct motion so is quiet, has loads of programmes and a delayed start so I use the economy mode and I'm impressed with it.

Bit left field from the usual brands but.......

+1 for Haier direct motion. Stocked by local electrical shops so generally good service if there's issues.

You posted about this before when your mother was adamant that you had to buy a machine from a local shop didn't you? I can't believe it still isn't resolved!

Save up (or pay in installments) for a Miele. I have recently replaced my 19 year old Miele with a new one. It has the front filter drain you want - it has a looooong eco programme but it's longish normal programmes can be halved with the 'short' wash button and there's a 20 minute quick wash. It's much quieter than the old machine because the motors have been improved significantly. There are often deals on them at Miele, AO and John Lewis. Mine came from Miele (the entry level machine on offer) and they included for free the installation and removal of the old machine.

Just came on to say that I've have my hotpoint for 13 years and it's had heavy heavy use!
I am now in the market for a new one though as it's definitely nearing it's end, I'm surprised to share about the Samsung as that was the one I wanted but I may well just buy another hotpoint

not sure what they’re like now but we had an LG direct drive for c15 years and only got a new one because we left it in the house when we moved. Have had our Bosch for 7years with no real issues (should prob clean the filter at the front a bit more regularly!)
in another property we had a Beko with no filter - was weird but didn’t have any major issues with it - was just too small, 6kg!

I usually Google Best Buys and go by that. I've got a John Lewis own brand which is good. I've had a few Boschs. They were good but the last one I had didn't rinse the foam out from the glass bit of the door properly

Sepoctnov · 24/09/2024 20:39

I've recently got an AEG. It's so quiet I sometimes have to check it's actually on!

blueshoes · 24/09/2024 20:42

Nowadays washing machines seem to have wash cycles that go on for hours and hours. Is that the case?

I was looking for one a few years ago but then decided to stick to my Indesit that did a full wash in one hour. Still going strong.

Fernhurst · 24/09/2024 20:42

You can choose the cycle length usually

A washing machine engineer told me that Bosch shifted their production from (I think) Germany to Spain. For some reason this resulted in a quality decline.

I'd just go with the zanussi if that's what she wants. I've got a bosch and previously had problems with bosch. Even the better brands are shit these days and made to break within a few years. I just buy cheap and accept that within 4 years, with a large busy family, the washing machine will be fucked and needing replacement. But, I don't mind as I don't spend too much on it.
