..... and can tell me what the hell I am doing wrong?

Yet again I have had to clean up the carnage created in the office microwave!

I don't understand why they do it, I put in the correct amount of milk, mix well, put the microwave cover on and it's like it just explodes in there.

This morning I even put a sheet of kitchen roll on top of the bowl and under the cover to limit the damage but now it's all down the sides of the bowl 😩

Why don't you just buy oats? You can get a small container (tupperware or the like) and take some oats into work that way, if you don't want to keep the whole bag/box in the office. Put into bowl, add milk, put into microwave.

I do, personally, though we have free breakfast at work and they provide both oats, and Oatssosimple. Plus about ten other cereals. So it's not me.

But they exist, people can buy them.

I just use a normal cereal bowl, definitely don't cover and you need to keep watch. I never leave it on full 2 mins either, stop after 1 min stir and take out about 1.50.

Oats so simple. Normal size not 'big bowl' size.

Normal flattish bowl, not as much milk as suggested, about 5mm below the line.
Pour it in round the sides and on top so all covered, no stirring.
Don't cover the bowl.
2mins 10sec at 900W.
It rises and sinks again but doesn't overflow.

This is absolutely the magic formula, I do exactly the same and although it gets close to the top it never overflows 🙌🏻

Watching this thread with interest as I have exactly the same problem!

You need a tall bowl like a noodle bowl

Morrisons do porridge pots which you make just with boiling water. Golden syrup / apple and cinnamon / plain flavours. About 45p each, 220kcals, 7g protein and really, really delicious.

thehungryteacher · 24/09/2024 18:27

Use 50% power

I can't believe I didn't know this and it is so much more delicious!

Slow cooked micro porridge

There aren’t any additives in Oatso Simple or the Asda ones which look similar - just oats.

Fair enough, though I question what you're paying for in that case; oat so simple costs about 5x as much per portion as buying a big bag of oats!

Zanatdy · 24/09/2024 18:46

I use the oats so simple packet and don’t fill it to the top line in the packet as that’s too much milk

I stand there watching it and when it starts bubbling up I ping it open, stir and then when it’s gone down again bung it back in. And repeat until it’s the consistency you like.

This is exactly what I do, if I can't see through the door it's usually the last minute I will keep opening the door to stir, you have to let it go back down before putting back in.
