When I got my laptop, I bought sims 4 cos it was the newer update. I’ve also downloaded some of the dlc but tbh I’m not enjoying it as much as I did Sims 3

Im playing on going back to basics and getting Sims 3 and some DLC

Sims 4 - I've played all versions since it first came out, and although I enjoyed Sims 3 it used to crash a lot of the time, which put me off. Now I'm so invested in 4 (I have nearly all the DLC) that there's no going back. Still one of the best games ever made, I think :)

4! Although my poor laptop struggles with all my cc and mods so might need to invest in some sort of hard drive.

Since getting a decent gaming pc - Sims 4. Before getting the pc it would lag and just not be enjoyable. I love the DLC and expansions so much

The original still has a special place in my heart though

MonsteraMama · 23/09/2024 19:15

I loved Sims 3 and modded the ever loving hell out of it. It's definitely had the most playtime out of me of all the versions.

I play Sims 4 now, it's a lot of fun still but you do need a decent chunk of the expansion packs to make it feel less "empty". The base game is piss poor on its own.

WanOvaryKenobi · 23/09/2024 19:17

Sims 3 for me. Being able to ride your horse around town - amazing.

I saw a mod I really wanted on sims 4 but I can’t work out how to do it

Have you modded before and this is just a particularly fiddly mod, or are you new to it? If there's one really lovely thing about the Sims it's the very supportive and helpful community. Modthesims has got loads of resources for modding to make it easy, give it a look if you haven't before! They're generally a lovely bunch.

Sims 4 for me. There were some aspects of Sims 3 I really enjoyed, the open town, investing in businesses, having your own hotel. But I found the Sims looked awful, like cabbage patch kids.

I wish I could go back and play Sims 2 just for the pre-made Sims, having cars and calling the matchmaker to bring you a date but it doesn't work on my pc for some reason 😞

I haven't got the new Sims 4 expansion pack, I've heard a lot of people talk about it breaking their games.

GCITC · 23/09/2024 19:36

Sims 2 will always be the GOAT

JacobKowalski · 23/09/2024 19:37

Also, did anyone else have the problem where the NPC characters had loads of babies? It's a nightmare! Not to mention the "We're thinking of trying for a baby" phonecalls -no you are not, you had triplets and twins and I cannot handle anymore bloody infants!!!

Burgerqueenbee · 23/09/2024 19:59

Sims 3 all the way! Would even put Sims 2 over Sims 4 to be honest. I think that not having many add ons makes Sims 4 such a sparse and boring game but I also don't want to invest £££ to make it more enjoyable. I love the open world in Sims 3, not bothered by the Sims 4 CAS capabilities and not really much of a builder either.

Sims 4 - heavily modded

ChaoticCrumble · 23/09/2024 20:48

Sims 2 was the best - I loved being able to go from family to family without any aging or changes from house to house, and I could make everyone friends.

The expansions feel too big now. If you send a kid off to university you need to play six hours of university to get them safely through it!

At least that's how I remember it. Bought a load of expansions and then I just stopped. I should try again at some point.

Have you turned on the option to use custom and mods in your game settings?

You may need an app like winrar to unzip your file before moving it to your electronic arts - sims4 - mod file

Soubriquet · 23/09/2024 20:50

Yeah that goes all over my head. I guess I’ll stick to what I’ve got

They all had their own wonderful parts that were disappointingly lost between each version (even when they repeated expansion packs)
Sims 3 imo is the best though

CraftyNavySeal · 23/09/2024 21:00

Sims 2. Loved all the bonkers story lines!

You can get the complete collection for Mac on the AppStore

SleepingisanArt · 23/09/2024 21:04

I'm in the original Sims camp. I miss it as I can't play it on my laptop 😭I loved being able to turn a hacker into the CEO of a software company. It was hilarious to be the burglar and steal things from Sims who hadn't installed a burglar alarm. The humour was great. I wish I could still play it....

crazypiglady · 22/10/2024 15:02

Can I jump on and ask which version is most suitable for kids? I have an 11 year old who loves world building and wants to try SIMS, I’m aware of the sex and violence risk with the game and we would play together, never alone, but I’ve read the latest version might not be as suitable as the earlier ones?

WallaceinAnderland · 22/10/2024 15:51

Sims 3 for me. I just couldn't get into Sims 4. I like to keep an eye on all my sims and click on them wherever they are in the town. You can't do that on Sims 4, you have to wait for each area to load so it was unplayable for me.

@crazypiglady Sims 3 pets is a great expansion for kids. There is no sex or violence as such. Sims can have sex (woo hoo) but it's blurred out and they have to have a high enough relationship i.e. be friends first, which I think is a pretty healthy message. Similarly if relationships go bad they can 'fight' another sim but again it's blurred out and cartoonish.

That said, you can kill sims by drowning, starving, electrocuting or setting them on fire. None of these happen by accident though, you have to trigger them yourself. I have discovered that a sim with the Unlucky trait can't be killed!

My current Sim is enjoying turning the residents of the town into ghosts by luring them to her house, killing them, resurrecting them and releasing them back into the community. It all works out well in the end and they become her ghost friends. Here they are at her party.

If you’re a Sims player, what is your favourite version?

Yup I play with the wicked whims mod 😂
