Recommendations for teen boy waterproof coat please?

Poor DS in year 7 got caught in torrential (amber weather warning) rain today and was soaked. His previously reliable waterproof was just not enough. He's very tall for his age and in age 13-14 for school uniform. can someone please recommend a waterproof, preferably a bit longer in length to try and keep his bum dry?

Try GoOutdoors
Huge selection they link with DofE
Try some coats on as sizes can be inaccurate if you want to go over blazers etc.

It's a gamble because kids lose stuff at school, and getting a very good waterproof won't be the cheapest coat in the shop.

You pay for waterproof items to be lightweight and pack small, so it's a balance between cost, size, how waterproof, what temperature it will go down to

How much do you want to spend?
How trustworthy is the teen?

But GoOutdoors is a good starting point, lots of choice, range of budgets.

So the Peter Storm range there is a £35 jacket with 3000mm rainproof, and a £75 5000mm rainproof which is the amount of hammering the fabric can take before it leaks basically.

The best rainjacket I had was gortex, it was £100 at the time, no lining just waterproof and oh my lord was it waterproof lasted 15 years with much use, similar, double layered is £160 (I obviously want one now).

I'd go and talk to someone at an outdoor retailer. They will be able to help you.

Mountain Warehouse have some smart, lightweight black coats (not puffa) with hoods which are actually quite cool. My 14 year old son says it's an acceptable brand, which did surprise me! Fits well over a blazer, waterproof.

Thanks I'll have a look at both of those. His current one is craghoppers which wasn't cheap but is getting a bit old now

I agree with GoOutdoors if you have one nearby, they are worth a drive as well.

DD has Peter Storm coats, I think we paid around £60-£70 for them. She is an Explorer Scout so her coats have to be good to stay dry on their trips.

She wears a size up from her normal clothes, so it's definitely worth trying them on, ideally with the same layering he would use for school.
These ones are also sold at Blacks stores, often to a decent discount, it's worth looking around.

I found that washing, especially with bio detergent, can cause issues. You can re-waterproof some but it's something you would have to do on a regular basis.
