Has this person blocked me in? Photo - no diagram

I’m the white car, parked on my driveway.

No idea who the van belongs to - it’s not a delivery driver as it’s been there an hour. They are parked over the dropped section, just hard to see with the leaves.

I'd say you are only blocked in if you cant get out, but it is annoying. Another vote for reversing in in future, much easier (and safer) to get out.

Not always an option. We have a shared drive and have to park close to the house on the passenger side. If I reversed in I wouldn't be able to get out of the car.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 23/09/2024 13:08

Stick a note on windscreen. You’ve parked over my dropped kerb = illegal parking. Your van registration has been sent to local police.

If you can't really turn the I'd say that's blocked in. I'd be inclined to write a note and pop it under their windscreen asking them to be more considerate in future.

If @madeittheway needs to go out, then she should go and lean on the horn until someone takes notice.

a note won’t help

if she doesn’t need to get out, then it’s all good.

most people don’t block others in. But if this happens again then you can apply to council to get H line put in

kenidorm · 23/09/2024 13:33

The drop is on the neighbours side, I think they would have to apply

Feedable · 23/09/2024 13:38

Phone the council and, if your LA is like ours, a traffic warden will be out within half an hour to ticket them.I think that in residential streets they have mobile traffic wardens who respond quickly to cars parked illegally

To be fair, if you are having to ask on mumsnet if he has blocked your own driveway ... it probably isn't very clear to the person who parked either.
Maybe clear the leaves so the dropped kerb is more obvious?

There really is no point clearing the leaves. The whole street did a clean up this weekend and it’s just a vicious cycle.

it is clear to the person, they can physically see where a kerb drops.

What do you mean the drop is on the neighbours side? It’s across the entire double driveway.

What’s to the other side-can you pull round that way?

Easier said than done. Usually an entire row of cars on the other side and it’s very tight.

It’s a very old street and not built at all to allow rows of parked cars on either side, and traffic from both directions - on an intersection of two main roads 🙈

Ndn grandad does this to me every single Sunday! It leaves their own driveway free of course! Tbh I just eyeroll and go around, slightly painful but there you go.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 23/09/2024 14:34

Unless the neighbours car is right up next to yours, it does look like you can get off with a bit of shifting about - not ideal though.

RightSedFred · 23/09/2024 14:44

Well yes they have, but I could get my car out of there with a bit of wiggling.

What an inconsiderate git.

DixonD · 23/09/2024 15:00

This is one of the reasons why it’s always, always better to reverse into your drive. I never forward park on my drive.

helpfulperson · 23/09/2024 15:09

Are you hanging out over the pavement?

Sorry the picture is not clear, it does look like the dropped kerb ends just by the van wheel.

anotherlevel · 24/09/2024 10:32

Can we have a better picture of the cars and bin on either side and the road pls

Moremustard · 24/09/2024 10:49

My first thought was move your bins if you need to go out to give you more wriggle room. A van not delivering may be a tradesperson doing a job for a neighbour so maybe knock on a few likely doors? Vans and bigger cars do take a bigger space and it may have been the only viable option for them .it's only just over a not very obvious dropped kerb that has leaves disguising it so it's a bit inconsiderate of them and inconvenient to you as a one off

LeafHunter · 24/09/2024 10:51

I’d go around and find who it belongs to and ask them to move. Had to do this recently carrying a sleeping toddler as I couldn’t get into my lane. Annoying but the other driver sorted quickly and apologetically.

2chocolateoranges · 24/09/2024 10:52

THis is how my neighbour constantly parks at our drive. Sometimes I just manoeuvre my car backward and forwards other times I chap his door and tell him to move his van forward as he’s making it difficult for us to get on and off drive.

he always moves it, then watches how he parks for a week or two then it’s back to his same shit again and again.

DadJoke · 24/09/2024 10:58

if the dropped kerb is legal, the council might paint a white unbroken line in front of it which will discourage parking.

SleepingisanArt · 24/09/2024 11:00

If you phone 101 with the registration, make, model and colour of the van the Police will attempt to contact the owner. If they are not able to get a response they will send someone to ticket the van. (Had this when a blue badge holder thought it was a good idea to park on double yellow lines in front of gates which had a do not park sign - supplied by council as the gates needed to be clear for emergency access! They claimed their badge let's them park on double yellows but the police disagreed as they were causing an obstruction!)
