Someone recommend me a really effective spider catcher for someone with a huge phobia?

I know they can't harm me, etc., which is why I'm trying not to kill them anymore. But I'm honestly not exaggerating when I say I am struck with such paralysing terror whenever I see one. I'm looking into the London Zoo course, etc.

I have one of those spider catchers but it;s rubbish, doesn't fit properly around the spider and just makes it scuttle away faster. I'm looking into those vacuum ones, but most reviews say they're not effective against larger spiders. I exclusively get large spiders in my house, so I really need them to do the job against all spiders, regardless of size. Any recommendations?

Aww bless.
I can't help with that but I got over my spider phobia by exposure

I started watching videos of the cartoon spider, Lucas. Then I watched hours and hours of jumping spider videos. Then baby tarantulas, then big ones. This is over weeks and months.

I now have pet spiders!

I'm still not fond of house spiders but they don't freak me out like they used to

I don't really have any recommendations, but I've heard of people putting something by the windows to deter them from coming in.

I used to be terrified of them until we lived in a house where there were always so many, I had no option but to face my fear and catch them and pop them outside. It now doesn't bother me if I see one in the house and can quite happily go to sleep knowing there's a spider on the roof. Really big ones do still put me on edge a little, and if my husband is around, then I'll get him to catch it, but I don't get frozen in fear anymore. However it is a different story for me if there's a moth, wasp or daddy long legs in the house 🙈

I’m lucky enough not to be too bothered. I watched one slip in under the front door yesterday.
Anyway, a friend has one of the Lakeland ones with the ‘fingers’ at the end, she loves it!

This is the one we bought last year. It does the bigger spiders unless they have HUGE bodies but I think you can take the end bit off (I haven't tried). It's got a light so you can actually see if it's a bit gloomy or in a corner. I'm terrified of spiders but I can use this. Also good on flying moths Grin

Thanks! Just had a look. The reviews aren;t great and are saying the suction is poor?

Sorry not trying to be annoying - it's just my worst fear is me trying to use it and it not working!

I use a big plastic jug and a piece of card to slip under it; but the most effective thing I have found is using lemon eucalyptus oil or clove oil to keep them out. They hate it. I put a few drops on a cotton bud and wipe the ventilation bricks where they come in.

FireIronBeer · 23/09/2024 11:05

Vacuum cleaner with the longest hose attachment. Only viable option....

Pixiedust1234 · 23/09/2024 11:22

If it had great suction it would harm/injure it so it wouldn't be any good for catch and release.

It sucks it up enough to catch, then you upend it so you are pointing towards the sky while you walk to the window (for gravity). On some you can release the trigger while you walk, on some you keep that trigger depressed hard!

FireIronBeer · 23/09/2024 13:17

Honestly - catch and release is impossible if you can't get close to them. I had those grabbers - the big ones just ran up it towards my hand!

A cat!

Usually if you put them outside they die anyway.

Not they don't, spiders are supposed to live outside. Our houses are not ideal conditions for them.

We have one of these. Really good. I'm terrified.

GravitasShortfall · 23/09/2024 13:22

If you put them outside they die anyway. My DP is very phobic, and I’ve done my indorex spray around the house which stops 99% of them. I do it for the cat fleas mainly but the spider effect is a bonus.
