What are your little kids carpets like

My dd8 is a nightmare and has got marks all over her carpet. Which is only about 3 years old. Ive had it carpet cleaned pro and done it myself so the marks aren't going to shift. I hate seeing it such a mess but I don't want to get a new one to happen again. She still messes about with craft stuff, whatever she can get her hands on to play. Would it be better to get wood floor?

What are you kids carpets like, do they grow out of being messy by 9 🤣

No craft stuff upstairs in my house although that rules been broken a few times. Honestly I’d get a big cheap rug. I got a massive one in Tesco for £40 on a clubcard offer.

Mamofteenager · 23/09/2024 07:30

Truthfully no they don't. It just changes from craft mess to make up and fake tan!. We put a large rug over her carpet so easier to replace however, my friend put Lino in her DD's room that looks like wood flooring. It's not as cold as wood and easier to clean

Lino in all rooms, removed the carpets years ago so much easier to keep clean especially with playdough, art stuff ect x

Wooden floor with lovely large rugs which haven’t been damaged at all. No food or markers in the bedroom. Messy activities are for the kitchen.

SecondFavouriteDinosaur · 23/09/2024 07:37

Mine aren’t allowed food or craft stuff in their bedrooms so thankfully their carpets are pretty much spotless (they’re 11, 10 and 5). They have desks for normal drawing/colouring etc, everything else crafty is done downstairs at the table.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 23/09/2024 08:23

No they don't grow out of it! Dts are 13 and it's now make up and fake tan rather than craft stuff.

We replaced the carpet a few years ago with a cream one for some stupid reason. I've put rugs down and will replace it when they can stop being so careless.

Brighteyedtriangle · 23/09/2024 11:39

So no hope then. Yes my carpets are cream too. What was I thinking.

I also have that rule she doesn't paint upstairs. Does colours, or other crap she accumulates.

No craft stuff upstairs for our 7yo, always been the rule. Painting we get out for her and set her up at the kitchen table. No pens anymore as she kept leaving lids off and not looking after them so only pencils.
If she ever drew on the floor/carpet etc she'd be in huge trouble

Singleandproud · 23/09/2024 11:59

Craft stuff downstairs, and done on top of a shower curtain on the floor or table.

Messy beauty stuff in the bathroom

You can get thick lino type stuff now, you can mop it but softer and warmer on the feet than wood or laminate. Downside is heavy furniture can dent it.

In your case I'd just get a rug to cover the marks.

Cobblersorchard · 23/09/2024 12:05

The carpets are old but being replaced soon, DD doesn’t mark them upstairs though, anything that could mark is done downstairs (all craft, colouring etc). My biggest issue is stickers stuck to everything that don’t completely come off and leave sticky residue.

Caspianberg · 23/09/2024 12:23

Would it not be easier to get her a desk for her room if she draws upstairs? Rather than drawing on the floor?

I don’t allow craft or pens in bedroom, but we have wooden floor in the downstairs room where Ds does crafts at desk or in kitchen at table.
