Sudden incontinence when using tampons. Is this normal?

Just that really. I am 43 and for the last couple of periods I leak urine whilst using tampons. I can't feel it, and have only realized once I am pretty and wet - which at work is pretty bloody embarrassing.

I have looked it up and apparently it isn't uncommon, but I can't see anything where it has suddenly come on like this. I have had children but retained pretty good bladder control. My youngest is 12 and aside from the odd sneeze leak there has never been an issue.

Has anyone else had this?

Are the tampons in high enough? I have found if I have a tampon in (but not as high as possible) and have a wee without changing, some wee can be absorbed into the tampon and then leak out. Doesn’t happen if pushed up a bit higher.

I did think that, but I change my tampon after every wee this time and sane thing, it was actually worse this month 😔

I would either stop using them or use a panty liner with them.

I have this occasionally, usually when they shift slightly and put pressure in a nerve

I have that. Mine is caused by fibroids. Pushing on my urethra. Waiting on a hysterectomy

I am pretty heavy at times with my period (I suspect perimenopause) so double up (tampons and sanitary towels). This time, because I was travelling for work and presenting, I used tampons and Tena Lady. Is this an age thing? Why does nobody warn you?

Did you see a GP about the same thing then? I was wondering if I should.

I had this with menstrual cups and think it is because my cervix drops when I’m on my period and makes the cup push against my bladder or the sphincter or something.

I saw the gynaecologist about heavy bleeding and mentioned it in passing. Saw the GP about it and she didn't even examine me, useless. But then I paid for a private GP consultation with HCA and she picked it up along with cysts in my breast. I think it's worth talking to your GP about, even if to get a referral to gynie
