Hysterectomy - 5 weeks on - anyone experienced this?

Hi all

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy about 5 weeks ago. They took uterus, cervix and fallopian tubes but not ovaries. Recovering fine but when I go out walking I feel as if I have something at the top of my vagina and it feels a little uncomfortable. A bit like when you have a dry tampon in the wrong place but a bit further up. Anyone experienced this? Is it just due to the top bit not having healed fully yet?

Thanks in advance
Xx

It will be your vaginal cuff - once fully healed you shouldn't be able to feel it but you'll still be healing at 5 weeks. If you can still feel it by the time you have your post-op follow up appointment, mention it then.

@Sethera thanks for this. I was having dark thoughts about prolapse etc. I'd be really reassured if anyone could tell me they had the same and it went away.

I could feel mine for a while - can't now remember at what stage but it had gone by 8 weeks when I went back to work.

Sounds promising. Not sure I could cope with yet another health problem!

I'm sure it will be OK; it's unlikely that you would spontaneously prolapse in the recovery period.

Have you got a follow-up booked with a physio? I did (my hysterectomy was abdominal rather than laparoscopic) I was advised to start pelvic floor exercises once sufficiently healed, to avoid the risk of prolapse in the future. Check with your doctor if they haven't already mentioned it, as it will help your anxiety to do something positive once you're okayed to exercise.

I could feel mine too and the odd sting like I'd got a Christmas tree needle stuck - apparently that was a dodgy stitch that soon dissolved. It all improved without other concerns.

Thanks @Makelikeatreeandleaf that's reassuring to hear. Thankfully I don't have the Christmas tree needles - ouch!
