How would you wrap this gift?

I’m sorting out and wrapping DH’s 40th birthday birthday presents. They’re mostly events and things to do rather than physical things so it’s a bit crap that it’s mainly just pieces of paper saying stuff that he/ we are going to do. I’ve come up with some inventive ways of wrapping things but am a bit stumped on a rare whiskey tasting that we’re doing, he already knows that we’re going to a gig on that day but this is before? Any ingenious suggestions?

I know the obvious thing would be to get a bottle of whisky and wrap a note with it but I don’t want to spend anymore.

Treasure hunt with clues about 'whisking' him away?

BathPoppadum · 21/09/2024 13:02

Print out the voucher, stick it to some card and then cut it up into jigsaw shaped pieces. Put the pieces into a box (no picture) and wrap it up.

When I did a special experience for my dad, I composed a crossword puzzle that spelled out the occasion when all the clues were added.

I think he’d line that but I’d have no idea how to go about it! I’m useless at crosswords.

Print out a map of the location of the tasting and use it as wrapping paper around a small box.

Photo copy the voucher onto card, enlarged if possible, then cut it up into jigsaw pieces, pack into suitable container... envelope, tube etc.

Please wrap a kitchen whisk 😂Then watch the look of relief when you explain. Plus you also have a whisk which is useful.

It would be useful but I’m not sure he’d get it 😂

I think buying a miniature is a good idea, perhaps a good single malt that he hasn't tried yet?
(I know Glenfiddich used to do a set of three, all matured in different barrels, eg sherry. But that might be more than you want to spend.)

You can buy scratch cards on Etsy that reveal the gift underneath. I’ve done this a few times for ‘experience’ gifts. I stick them on top of an empty box so there is still something to open!

You can open up cereal boxes and reseal them inside out to have a plain box!

and you can get really nice gig "tickets" made too which are a good souvenir

Picture keyring? The kids could draw it? Nice keepsake?

Wrap up a whisk and a key.

Alwaystired23 · 21/09/2024 14:32

Have a look online, for a puzzle type box. If you Google puzzle box it comes up with some good ones, so he solves a puzzle to open the box with a voucher inside. I might do this for Dh and the ds's.

Thistooshallpass24 · 21/09/2024 14:39

@Alwaystired23 if that was my gift, I'd never be able find out what's inside! I don't seem to have a logical brain.

SunsetSkylane · 21/09/2024 14:41

I would just design a nice little voucher in Canva and print that out, put it in an envelope.

Actually, nor do I 🙄.

Buy a box of liqueurs and put the note in with that?

crowandpigeon · 21/09/2024 15:25

Put it in a balloon and get him to pop it.

Oh gosh so am I.

So I started with the essential words I needed and went from there. (So location, experience, and then he and his partner stayed in a lovely local hotel (which was part of my gift to him). It probably included dates as well (to pad out the clues and crossword).

Then just worked out various combinations where the words could cross.

Once I had the words, I worked out the questions that would give the answers I wanted.

Then designed it (it was very basic) on excel.

I can't remember the exact number of questions / answers. It would have been around 9 maybe.
