Does anyone here not drink any caffeinated drinks or alcohol?

I'm a very low consumer of wine and coffee/tea, I seem to be quite sensitive to both, and I'm considering giving up all coffee/tea and alcohol because I've had bladder issues. Do you suppose it would make a difference?

One glass of wine is my limit then I feel pretty spaced out and get headaches. With caffeine I can have one or two small caffeinated drinks in the morning, but more than that and my sleep is severely disrupted and I get headaches.

And would it be a joyless existence?

Is anyone else so sensitive to both that they gave them up? Did it make a difference?

Both caffeine and alcohol give me bad headaches (as well as other issues). I can tolerate tea/chocolate/cocacola, but I drink decaf coffee if I'm in the mood and avoid alcohol altogether. TBH, I don't find it too much of a hardship

I do not and never have cared for alcohol or coffee. Even tea I will choose decaf if possible. So I guess that makes me 'joyless'.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason I've not been too tired with my baby is that I limit myself to one cup of caffeinated tea and that's it.

I can nap better and sleep better.

There was quite a noisy pro-coffee brigade on here last time I said this, but at the end of the day no foodstuff is essential for health.

I have decaff tea throughout the day, but don’t drink alcohol or eat chocolate (I think lots of people don’t realise how much caffeine is in Chocolate!).

I don’t think my life is that joyless 😂

I very rarely do, but in a whim I bought some Costa coffee sticks from Waitrose on Thursday and have had three this week now. Unfortunately they are half price on Ocado so there are a shit ton arriving tomorrow. Alcohol, very very rarely.

Yes I don't drink either. I can't have sweeteners either so I just mainly drink water or fizzy water and sometimes put some Mr Fitzpatrick's cordial in. It's not joyless, but it's a bloody relief to get rid of urge incontinence and migraines / headaches. Skin looks better, less baggage under the eyes too. I found it a positive move on the whole.

I don’t drink alchohol, it’s helped my health. I suppose giving up caffiene will be next.

My DH,both caffeine and any alcohol really upset his gut,he ends up with pain and diarrhea. Occasionally in the summer,he will sniff my odd glass of cider and say he would kill for that! Otherwise,he's not bothered,he enjoys fizzy drinks,I don't. He has decaffeinated tea, Nescafé only appear to have cappuccino,so one a day, and decaffeinated coke. Tried alcohol free beer cider,it still has enough alcohol to upset him.

I drink lemonade if I'm out but other than that I only drink water and the occasional hot chocolate. The only problem is when you meet someone new and they offer you a cup of tea you feel about 8 years old saying no just water will be fine thanks.

I've never really understood why people voluntarily get themselves hooked on something like caffeine - getting out of bed is hard enough, don't make it harder!

ThatMakesSense · 21/09/2024 10:05

Yep me! Don't like either - and don't work well with my meds either.

FishFlaked · 21/09/2024 10:05

Me, OP it’s the opposite of joyless to avoid things that make you feel ill. It cuts down on how ill you feel. That’s a good thing.

This.

Sorry, when I said joyless I was being a bit facetious. I really enjoy coffee and wine, but they don't seem to suit me!

Just find an alternative that you really like.
I gave up caffeine because of migraines and now my go to is earl grey rooibos. Find the joy in other places. Carry some around with you so you don't miss out socially.
