Good Morning from the train to Durham! We're up & out so early to head to the uni open day & explore the city - any suggestions? Just a bit knackered after getting in from a gig at gone midnight 💤 & we've booked the 7pm train home.

Both kittens are up, breakfasted, & causing havoc at home 🤣

Dd2's not fussed about doing anything today so will probably have a home day with her dad & finish her homework.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning!

I've managed to get out of taking DD horseriding today, so instead I am sat with my second cuppa of the day, about to get my English marking done. Then I will do the meal plan for October, and a Sainsbury's food shop for this week to kick it off.

DM is moving in with us for a while soon, and bringing lots of furniture, so we also have somebody coming to collect our current dining room and chairs today to make room for everything! I am going to ask DH to move some other furniture around too: we're trying to do it slowly rather than having chaos on one day. I've also promised DS I'll help him to write a CV today as he's desperate for a part time job and struggling to find one with online applications. He'll then go round handing them out tomorrow with his friend who is having the same trouble.

This evening, I'm cooking chicken schnitzel for tea, then DH and I will snuggle up and catch up with this week's Only Connect. I might try to sneak in a film with one of the DC too, if not, DD and I will probably do a girly night tomorrow with face masks and a rubbish 90s/00s rom-com.

imverynosey · 21/09/2024 09:47

I'm still on maternity leave so not much today. May go for a walk around the block with the baby in the pram. Partner is in bed as has been on night shifts x

Kids activities, trying to decide whether to work today (probably should) so possibly put in 4-5 hours then the house to clean tomorrow and all the weekend organisational stuff to do. School has decided to set presentation homework. Dc twins aged 9 can do a PowerPoint or a poster and they would like, for me, to do a PowerPoint. I think I might lose the will to live if I do so will find a hobby store and some art supplies and let them go wild. One of them wants to do the midnight zone so I wonder if a big poster painted black and then you have to shine a light to see the information would be cool?

That sounds amazing. B and q and probs hobby dm craft do glow in the dark paint

Morning all 😊

I've not long woken up and just looking out the window, miraculously still dry so I'm going to get up, make coffee and plant all the remaining plants I still have in the garden as a young lad came this week to dig it all up. I need to put some weed retainer down and then bark chippings too.
Got to try and finish painting the fence in between showers because it looks like it's going to rain from midnight for an entire week 😒
I'll cook and veg in front of the TV later I expect. Tomorrow I need to clean the bathroom and hoover everywhere. Going out for lunch with my friend and then I will try and spend the afternoon working on my CV and LinkedIn. Still not sure what is happening to my job so need to get my head in the game. I spotted a good job with our local police force (civvy) yesterday so I'm going to do some further digging there.

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. My alarm went of at 7am, had a quick shower. I was out walking the dogs between 7.30am-8.30am.
Got back home made me & DS hot drinks and ready brek with breakfast topping and gave the dogs breakfast.
Today i'm going to the garden centre for a look round, going to go to sainsburys for some cadbury chocolate buttons as there 85p on nectar and not the usual £1.65p. Also going to get all my personal photos uploaded to funky pigeon as I always buy my DS a personalised calender to hang up in the kitchen for next year.
This evening will be pizza & salad for tea & strictly come dancing.

Judellie · 21/09/2024 10:04

We're waiting for the teens to get up to go to the church MacMillan coffee morning - they're the ones that one to go, DD has made cakes for it and I've been sorting out raffle prizes for it (mostly wine as we don't drink alcohol but we have some here!)
DS has just surfaced but no sign of DD yet.
I have already done a bigger shop than I intended this morning as DH was snoring and I couldn't sleep so was at Tesco at ten past seven!
Done the very basic housework of emptying dishwasher and put a wash through. Hung it out but it's drizzly now so unlikely to get dry unless it brightens up later.
It's staying out there for now, there's loads of clothes in the house to put away so I'll just be generally tidying this afternoon, house needs a bit of attention.
DD has been working most evenings this week and we went climbing on Tuesday, so she needs to do homework and revise for some tests at school next week.
DS will probably go round the shops this afternoon. DH is apparently planning to 'do track work' which translates as painting his model railway, I think!
Have a lovely day everyone and thanks for starting the thread @lucysmam Enjoy Durham!

@MoreIcedLattePlease mealmplanning for the month sounds intense but brilliant! Could
you share a pic?

ThatMakesSense · 21/09/2024 10:10

Taking our kayak out to the lake - dog loves it, DD loves it, DH loves it. I'm not a fan haha.

Fudgetheparrot · 21/09/2024 10:20

Morning everyone :) I was supposed to be taking both kids to my best friend’s daughters birthday party today and letting DH have a chill before he does a late shift, but the baby has been up coughing all night and breathing noisily so he now has an OOH appointment at the same time as the party. And I haven’t slept a wink!

So I’ve just been to buy birthday presents (another party tomorrow!) and the current plan is that I’ll pick DD up from dancing, take her home and get her changed, drop her and DH off at the bus stop so they can get the bus to the party, take DS to out if hours, then hopefully collect DH and DD from said party, drop DH at work and then collapse! Thankfully my mum left us some homemade macaroni cheese in the freezer as a thank you for watering her plants while she’s away, so tea is sorted with minimal effort.

@UserNameOfShame one of my friends at uni was head of the Harry Potter society (she took it very seriously) and they had constant arguments with the Quidditch team, who wanted to secede from the Harry Potter society and be recognised as an independent sport! 😂

FlorencenotRatchet · 21/09/2024 10:24

Morning @lucysmam and all happy Saturday.
Am currently lounging on a sun bed in Greece and not planning to move except to swim, eat and drink.
This is the first rain free day we've had so making the most of it.
Enjoy your day everyone.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 21/09/2024 10:26

Currently got a million pastries in the oven because my family's coming round.

onlyhereforthechristmaschat · 21/09/2024 10:27

I’ve been up since 6.30am, I should’ve gone out a walk but couldn’t be bothered so I did some life admin instead. Just had breakfast and got a wash on.
Plumber is coming at lunchtime to give us a quote to take the bath out and just have a shower. I’m patiently waiting on DH getting up then we can give the bathroom a good clean before he comes.
This afternoon I’m meeting my mum and aunts for coffee. I haven’t seen them for a while (my aunts) so will be good to catch up then my mum and I will likely have a look around the gift shops in the village.
We have a Five Guys vouchers to use so that will do DH and I for dinner. Tonight I need to meal plan and do some training for work that I’ve not had a minute this week to do.

I could, but it's exceedingly dull, I fear. I don't plan lunches/breakfasts to that extent, I just do dinners. We do adjust as we need to through the month etc as plans change, but I just have a spreadsheet with Mon-Sun columns and five rows (to fit the half week(s) in). We all chip in with things we fancy and then I fit meals into the days depending on whether we need quick/easy or we're out, or have more time to cook something a bit more labour intensive.

It means when I do our weekly shop, the plan is already done and I spend way less time stressing over it. I tend to to the month plan in the third week of the month before, like we are now, so I'll plan October this weekend, November probably at the start of Oct half term etc.

Lunches we just buy bits we fancy weekly, breakfasts are a bit boring here. I alaways have bread (toast), cereal, pastries, porridge and cereal bars in. We have bacon sandwiches/bagels/croissants/muffins etc every Sunday.

afaloren · 21/09/2024 10:37

We are sorting the kitchen out. Cupboard by cupboard, drawer by drawer. Tedious but it needs to be done; we work well together and we’ve got the radio on.

FIL is actually here at the moment to help DH with the guttering that’s warped. So I’m taking a quick moment to check MN. Love these threads thanks @lucysmam

Mumz0612 · 21/09/2024 10:38

Off to watch ice hockey with my youngest like we do every weekend going to be a fun night

lifeturnsonadime · 21/09/2024 10:39

We’ve had an early start dropping eldest of for his first year of university at UCL, currently parked up round the corner from his halls waiting for his time slot , we’re going to sort him then got a hotel booked for the night near the Tate Modern.

Enjoy your weekend all, and hope you enjoy Durham OP.

Meadowfinch · 21/09/2024 10:43

Chores. I've been off with Covid for 10 days so the house is a tip. I'm finally feeling a bit more human and I can't bear it like this. Everything needs doing but starting with bathroom & kitchen. 😱

Eyesopenwideawake · 21/09/2024 10:45

Putting IKEA kitchen drawers together and installing the runners in the cabinets. My back hurts!

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 21/09/2024 10:47

Morning all! DH at work until tonight and I'm on Nana duties (he's 2) this afternoon. So chilling with the dogs until then.

Cheekymonkye · 21/09/2024 13:46

Just popped back on to say cottage pie done , lasagne for tomorrow done and in the fridge.
gpig cleaned out , bedding stripped washed and on the line .

still want to do vacuuming and washing put away - but I’m going to have a brew , penguin and watch a Vera , and probably have a little nap 😴

I can’t Remember when my Saturdays got so boring, but I’m here for it 🤣

Andnowshesatoddler · 21/09/2024 15:18

We've been to a kids play ground type place this morning and got coffee on the way then home for a nap toddler is a little poorly with a bit of a cold she seems to have come down with this morning she's just on a nap and then I think we will get snug in bed and watch gekko garage or some horse videos or maybe monkeys :-)

Oldraver · 21/09/2024 16:00

I've dropped OH, DS1and DS2 off at the train station after picking up DS1 and having kitty cuddles

Popped over to Stow-on-the Wold to supposedly exchange some boot tassels as thought I had bought the same colour previously but realised not. Ended up getting another pair and trying on a beautiful coat

Bought some socks, pasties sausage roll and a baguette from the shop our boss calls in. (We always drool over the baguettes he brings in)

Then went to Chasleton House for a look round

Ah also had cake and coffee

Crunchymum · 21/09/2024 16:15

Very late to the party today.

Happy Saturday everyone.

It was the usual swimming lessons, library and park earlier. Picked up some bacon and fresh rolls for lunch.

The weather here has been glorious. Unexpectedly so.

DP has taken the kids out for a canal walk / nature reserve and we've all been invited to an impromptu BBQ at my siblings house, so we are going to meet there shortly. I've managed to knock up a potato salad, some lamb kebabs and am taking the ingredients for Eton Mess.

Won't be a late one but will probably be the last BBQ of the summer!!

OldTinHat · 21/09/2024 16:15

I was on a ferry at silly o'clock to pick up a rescue dog. She's settling in great so far.

She's an old lady, hates walks, loves sleeping and food so we'll get on just great. She also peers out of the window, having a nose. Also like me!

MargaretThursday · 21/09/2024 17:29

I've done the other side of the garden path now, so we have a full path viewable rather than a thin line between two overgrown sides of lawn!
And our skip bag is now full. I've told dh he needs to decide whether to get a second skip bag or whether he'll take the remains to the tip, and can he make it this week so I know for next weekend. I'll let you know in 2025 what decision I ended up making for him.
I hope the bulbs come up. I've planted about 500 bulbs around the garden over the last few weeks. The last time I planted bulbs about 3 managed to come up, but I'm hopeful for these.
I have done two patches of a mixture of crocuses, snowdrops and bluebells, and two strips (either side of the path) of loads of daffodils. If half come up I'll be happy.

I now have a throbbing patch over my eyebrow that might develop into a migraine. I'm trying to pretend it won't, but if it hasn't cleared in 20 minutes I'm going to lie down. It's migraine weather!
