Why would someone smell like burnt toast?

Every now and again, a person I visit smells strongly of burnt toast.
He doesn't eat toast or anything similar.

It isn't a bad smell, just odd.
When he enters a room, it arrives suddenly, as if someone has been cooking. As far as I know he is in decent health. He is 65 and pretty fit.

It went away over a few weeks months ago and during a discussion he mentioned having to shower more. He isn't on a low income or suffering mental health issues, but I wondered if there could be a connection?

Has anyone heard of such a smell on a person? It's kind of like food cooking, not nasty or bad, but strange.

Has he any skin conditions? My dh has psoriasis and occasionally it can flare in the groin area and it has a very distinctive smell, I can smell it even when he's dressed but showering often, keeping the area dry and applying prescribed medication clears it within a day or so.

Wood burner or open fire. A puff of wind can cause a down draft and old cold ash can release some vapours!

Does he use Odour Eater insoles in his shoes?

They smell of burnt toast because they contain carbon which neutralises foot odour.

Are you having a stroke?

I SAY! That's a bit personal! 😳

If you must know, I was just scratching a mosquito bite.

Sorry to muscle my way in on this post… I get strange smells in my own house sometimes. I haven’t had a stroke but have narrowed arteries - how are smells related to strokes? Is there such a thing of almost having a stroke but not?

If he vacuums before you come round it could be that if he has an old appliance .

When you mention that it went after he had showered, it made me wonder if it was/is a yeast infection (ie Candida) possibly groin or armpit? That can have a bread dough like smell.

Is it only at his house or when you see him elsewhere. There's a bit of river I walk along on a dog walk that smells of burnt toast but it's near some industrial units so I guess they are soldering or something. If it's on him, does he use aftershave with a smoky/woody smell?

Think you might be thinking of TIA’s trans ischemic attacks like very mini stokes. Unsure but think some people get a smell aura before fits. My brain might be making that up, but sure heard somewhere.

Parkinsons disease is known to have a distinctive smell which only a very small number of people can pick up on in the easily stages before symptoms develop. Could it be that? Any thing else strange about him?
