Cancelling holiday advice

Goldenboysmum · 20/09/2024 20:00

Hi

My daughter has just booked a holiday through Love Holidays (for February)

She didn't really think it through and the hotel is about an hour away from Dublin.

She now trying to cancel it, quite happy to lose her £50 deposit but it's saying she will have to pay a cancellation fee of £220 for a holiday booked less than an hour ago.

Does anyone have any advice on how to cancel without paying the £220.

And yes, she realises now she's learned the hard way to research holidays a bit more carefully!

for a holiday in February on the far outskirts of dublin???!!!

Goldenboysmum · 20/09/2024 20:08

Says 100% of the value of the flight is non refundable, that's probably the £220. She's maybe just as well going and learning from her mistake!

Yes, although that's for 2 of them, not that it makes it any better really, she wanted to treat her boyfriend

Whereabouts is the hotel, maybe it's in a nice area worth visiting?

Indeed. And loveholidays' website states: "You’ll then be given a cancellation quote, which includes a breakdown of any cancellation costs or fees, as well as the refund amount you’ll receive should you go ahead with the cancellation" so they haven't hidden anything. I think OP's assumption about £220 being the cost of the flights is likely, however, since the website states the "cancellation quote" will "include a breakdown of any cancellation costs or fees" she can confirm this.
I do think it's a bit rich to charge this when you're cancelling within an hour of booking because it's highly likely those flight seats will be sold to someone else in the next four months, but remember people, always read the Ts & Cs!

It's Tallaght

It looks like there's a train station and a tram stop in Tallaght so they should be able to get into Dublin and spend the day there.

Ah I see. Well they could certainly get public transport into the city centre but Tallaght is a suburb, not really somewhere you would particularly chose to visit.

nutrosti · 20/09/2024 20:40

how many nights?

Iiiiiiiiii · 20/09/2024 20:42

Missing the point but unless she is flying from outside the UK, your daughter also needs to learn a lesson on checking holiday prices on various sites. Who pays £800 for preaumably a few days in Dublin

in the suburbs an hour from Dublin in Feb!!

IrritableVowel · 20/09/2024 20:47

She can get tram into city centre from Tallaght but there isn't much to do in that area. Has she an option to change hotel?

noodlecanoodle · 20/09/2024 20:47

Tallaght is rough as fuck

Can they rent a car? Kildare Village is a nice day out

xyz111 · 20/09/2024 20:48

Can they amend rather than cancel? Expensive lesson!!

It was 6 nights, and its not the cost (which isn't too bad for 2 of them), its the fact that she didn't realise the hotel wasn't in Dublin until after she booked.

So I suggested she cancel, lose her £50 deposit and rebook with a better hotel, but unfortunately its not looking as easy as i thought it might be.

Can she call them and change the hotel? Keep the flight which is likely the non refundable bit
