Pregnancy weight gain

Why is it that so many women put on so much weight during pregnancy? Do they think,"I'm going to get big anyway, so it doesn't matter what I eat?"

Urm nope.

I've known some women to have that attitude, yes.

But women are all different (shocker!) so there'll be all different reasons for large weight gain.

Hi Mums, just curious to know when you started gaining weight after the 1st trimester. I was 53kgs before my pregnancy. At week 10-11 I was 50.5kgs (losing weight due to morning sickness etc.) and now nearly finishing 16 weeks im still 52kgs. I feel better, still very tired but much less vomiting. Also eating better in the past 2 weeks, but weight remains the same since week 13...

Any things i should be worried about? Thank you.

(my BMI is never more than 19.5)

@Kk12345 everyone is different. I was 49kg,5ft5 before getting pregnant. Put on so much weight in the first trimester. I would say I put on about 0.5 kg a week for the first two trimesters. Then I started losing weight during the third. Was 61 kg after the birth. Then put on a bit when I started breastfeeding. My weight has been fairly stable 61kg for 8 months. But Im confident when I stop breastfeeding it will sort itself out (at the moment I'm all boob - can squeeze into size 8 jeans but more comfortable in a 10. It takes a couple of years for your body to get back to normal. I don't have any stretch marks, my body shape is pretty much the same (apart from the massive boobs). Im healthy and active. So I'm not worried.

When the baby arrives weight is the least important thing (coming from someone who had an ed in their 20). You have a little human to enjoy and look after. As long as you are a healthy, there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Bmi of 19.5 very nearly underweight. Don't be scared about putting on weight. It's temporary.
