What cooking facilities have you got? Double bed that needs duvet etc or singles that you could use sleeping bags? Will you be using electric hook up or gas?

FourChimneys · 20/09/2024 11:49

A massive bank balance, in my experience.

But on the positive side, a warm sleeping bag or duvet. Also the best blackout blinds you can get.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/09/2024 11:52

Ours came with black out blinds. Without knowing what the OP has got it's difficult to say what she needs. We bought ours in semi-lockdown and did way too much online shopping its very easy to get carried away in the excitement..

Frying pan
Fish slice
Mugs
Kettle
Flip flops and dressing gown for showers
Door mat

Nerves of steel when your driving down narrow roads.

As Moho owners of many decades, I always give the same advice.

Live in the caravan/Moho/camper on your driveway for 24hrs as this is the only way you will get to know how everything works and find out what you have forgotten.
Most pop off on an "adventure" and spend the first evening all over the various FB groups asking how this & that work or moaning that they have forgotten a tin opener, corkscrew, matches, torch, batteries, charging leads, pillows, milk, headache tablets, loo roll, sugar, teddy bear etc etc.

Another (recent) favourite is people taking along all sorts of "essential stuff" (kettle, toaster, mains TV, air frier, coffee maker, hair straighteners etc) which they expect to work off the mains sockets only to find that the EHU is limited to 6A or if they are "wild camping"/pub carpark, they have no EHU and expect the mains sockets to magically work off the battery.

What van have you got op?

Swift Monza

And thanks everyone, we have had a try out on the drive! And got most of the essentials people have mentioned. Shall gather the other bits together.
Maybe I'm more organized than I think!

Electric hookup

Lollypop701 · 20/09/2024 12:40

Fluid for the toilet, loo roll.

Look at a site called MotorhomeFun. If you’re ever stuck over something there’s always someone knows the solution. They do meet ups as well.

A pair of ramps for parking as level as you can on uneven ground. A hose with a couple of different adaptors to connect to the water pipe to fill up any on board water tank. I met plenty of people who haven't bothered but I also have a compact fire extinguisher.

Is it in your drive? Could you sleep in it overnight before your trip so you can see if you need a mattress topper or need blackout blinds or net for flyscreen over a window etc.
At home when prepping meals either add spares of the things you use or make a list of things. It's things like kitchen roll and pegs I forgot the first time. Some things you'll want to keep in all the time (dishwashing liquid, plates etc)

We all miss our motorhome but sold as too small for growing family and now kids activities rule it out for now.

Deathraystare · 20/09/2024 12:51

How very exciting! I wish I had one but cannot /not allowed to drive because of health issues. Boo!

Happywrappy · 20/09/2024 12:57

An outdoor bbq (we use a cadac) and comfortable chairs, and windbreak. And wine! Half the fun is being outdoors more, and cooking outdoors will help limit condensation inside. Go to a campsite and nosy at other people’s set up to get ideas before you spend too much!

DaisyDukesAuntie · 20/09/2024 13:02

Depending on the quality of the mattress, an inflatable mat or topper to make it more comfortable. We have a good (but thin) mattress in the pop top, but I appreciate the additional support of a self inflating camping mat.

An outdoor mat - so when you get in and out without shoes on you don't get wet feet etc

Ear plugs for noisy camp sites

Enjoy! We have had ours for a few years now and it's amazing!

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 20/09/2024 13:09

We take a tub to put shoes in and then push under the van, to save space inside.

We also never use the shower - they just aren't great so use the space for storage. We take poncho style towels and then put them on clothes hangers on the shower rail to dry them - the bathroom has a heating vent so it gets warm very quickly, perfect for popping wet coats on too.

Defo don't forget flip flops/sliders for the facilities.

Over the top first aid kit - ticker remover, bite cream, etc etc.

Thanks everyone for your knowledge

Rattles will drive you insane when you're travelling....line cutlery area with a tea towel, bubble wrap between things, non slip matting stops things moving around.
