House conversion are they noisy?

Has anyone lived in a house conversion or know someone who has? As in a large house converted to a flat. That's council/social housing. They seem pretty popular . But I always thought the sound proofing in them would be pretty bad?

Yes.

Ask if the floors and ceilings are concrete or wood, if the latter then you will hear everything.

That's what I thought. On the social housing bidding sights they are so popular 300+ bids and much higher bids than purpose build old build flats . My dd has bipola and her kids have special needs which equals alot of noise. I advised her to keep away from them 😅

The advantage is that the rooms are nice and big, high ceilings etc and there is character and generally a better location. Also my kids are additional needs and I don't mind so much when they are noisy, as the neighbours are noisy as well so we just all get on fine. I think it also depends where you are positioned in the building, also whether there are carpets etc.

In my experience, any older property will be much noisier. We live in a 1950s property and never hear our attached neighbours.

In a lower flat you will definitely hear people walking about upstairs. Especially if there are no carpets - check if the lease requires carpets (usually same lease terms for all flats)
In an upper flat it’s not bad, but then no direct access to outdoors.

However soundproofing in more modern buildings isn’t always all that great either.

Omg I live on the bottom of a converted 3 bedroom house now spilt in two separate one bedroom flats the noise from the person above is awful like a herd of elephants stomping around my chandlliet light shakes when he’s stomping about and it’s always late of a night and you can literally hear them having a wee aswell is a council housing association property I have told them about the noise and they said nothing they can do but insist of installing fire alarms in my flat when obviously the floorboards between flats isn’t fire proof aswell as sound proofed if anyone has any suggestions on what I can do I would be very grateful
