Buying ahead- how many vests for an older baby?

Trying to save some maternity leave pennies now I’m in my last month of full pay. Not buying all the clothes but just the stuff we know we will use all year round, so it doesn’t matter what season baby is in that size. I have 15 vests in each small size (first size, up to 1m and up to 3m).

How many vests would I need in 6-9 and 9-12 months? I imagine they’re maybe sick a bit less but also that’s probably the weaning sizes so they’ll get stained with food?

Honestly my answer would be 15-20, my baby is 5 months now and I’ve always had that many vests for every age and continuing, she’s teething badly atm and she’s soaked in slaver within an hour sometimes! I’d just say as many as you want really and it depends how “on it” with washing you’re going to be, having more means less pressure to get everything washed ASAP which makes my life easier as I have an absolute velcro baby who will not be put down!😂 good luck!

Thank you! Definitely want to reduce washing and make life easier

Also bundles on vinted are your friend! They are out of them so quick I don’t think it makes sense to buy them new x

Consider weather, my DD is 9 months and hasn’t worn vests in months but now it’s getting colder I’ve bought a batch off Vinted. Also nearly new sales are excellent for picking up bargains. Keep in mind weaning, poonamis and general scuttling around will stain them so you may be wearing them out a lot faster than the earlier sizes.

Depends how often you want to be washing them but allow 2 a day for dribbling, food mess, nappy leaking- so probably at least 10

I would not have bought first size or up to one month to be honest. They were grand in 0 -3 months from the beginning.

10 max as the washing machine will be on constantly anyway

We only put our 9 month old in vests at bedtime (because we live in Scotland and he needs something under his sleepsuit even in summer). I prefer t-shirts during the day as it's easier to take a quick look down the back of his nappy. So I'd probably avoid bulk buying anything until you know what works for you. Could you put the money aside in a separate savings account?

SparkyBlue · 20/09/2024 13:53

I'm going to agree with those who say don't stock up on too much. I vests off mine always in summer and you often find you'll stay ages in one particular size and then almost skip another size.

Controversely, I used vests in summer and ditched tshirts. The vest helped keep the nappy in place and the bunched nappy in turn kept his shorts up
