What's the verdict, Omaze entrants?

It's another glass house, and looks very similar to previous ones - I'm not keen, so am still hanging my hopes on the Yorkshire one. Also, this maybe a daft question, but what happens to all that outside furniture when it rains? There is a lot of it, and if you have to rush out with covers for it all it would be a pain.

I'd happily accept it if I won, but am pretty sure I'd sell it immediately after a nice long holiday.

It's not actually close to the cliff so there isn't any chance of erosion. Which is a bonus.

RainintheDesert · 20/09/2024 15:27

It's a bit meh 😑. The furniture is very IKEA looking.

Agree - both the architecture of the house and the ‘make over’ - Omaze have a tendency to overdo the ‘beige’, especially with sofas that will last seconds with pets or new jeans leaching dye! What I especially love about the current Yorkshire house is the use of colour and the wood panelling. Like OP, I’d be converting the stables/out buildings into a creative arts centre/accommodation and probably invite a local community group to set up a cafe, rent free, to raise funds in one of the buildings.

Oh, my first customer- excellent 😎. You can have a 50% discount if you tell all your friends and give us a great review on social media. In fact you can run the ‘talking about books’ sessions and stay free.

This is easier than I expected 🥳

It's a deal. 😁

@DiscoHippo thats where I thought it was too

Re the Yorkshire house, does anyone know the brand and colour of the dark green halls?

TiramisuThief · 21/09/2024 12:33

DiscoHippo · 21/09/2024 10:42

Is it this half-built plot here?

Yep that's it

This is the planning application for it. Some interesting 3D views of it in Jan 2021

It made me think of TKMaxx.

It looks like there is another house next to it in what was next door's garden, but built diagonally on the plot so it looks across the Omaze house plot? As is often the case, the devil is in the details not shown in the Omaze website photos and description.

I agree though, I certainly wouldn't say no to winning any of the Omaze houses or cars, even if I just sold them immediately or fairly soon after. The cars I would definitely sell immediately as we don't need or want a new, flashy or expensive car, but the money instead would be put to very good use. Any London house I would also definitely sell immediately, perhaps just having a family holiday for a week or two in it to experience that and see the sights, and letting a small number of close friends do the same, while it sold. The other houses, like the current Yorkshire and Devon houses, I would probably like to try them on for size for a while and see if they fit before deciding to keep or sell. I wouldn't keep them to let out as I wouldn't want the responsibility and possible problems that come with that.

Munchyseeds2 · 21/09/2024 15:12

We pay £10 a month and just forget about it.
But really we are a bit Clueless! Does that monthly fee put you into all the draws?

I'll worry about what I would do when we win something😂

Sandwichgen · 04/10/2024 17:55

So which of us has won the Yorkshirehouse then?

ShyMaryEllen · 04/10/2024 18:25

Sadly, something went wrong, and it wasn't me. Either that, or there's been a mix-up in the notification process, and I'll find out on Monday🤞

I have a subscription, so I'n in the draw for the Devon one, but I'm nowhere near as keen as I was on the Yorkshire one.

BuyingButterAndSatinSandals · 12/10/2024 12:16

Alas no Yorkshire house here, just a £10 gift card.

@Munchyseeds2 - My understanding is that you will be entered into all the house draws and early bird car draws, but not the subscriber monthly cash draws or the flash cash draws. I think you have to pay at least £20 a month, rather than £10, to be entered into the subscriber monthly cash draws and everyone has to buy different one-off tickets if we want to enter each flash cash draw.

Really not keen on the new house at all

You mean the Wirral house? I love the house - big fan of mid-century architecture - but I’m not sure about the location. I mean, I’m sure the Wirral is lovely but it’s not somewhere I’d think of living or holidaying like most of the others.

DilemmaDelilah · 18/10/2024 09:25

I want the new one in the Wirral. My daughter lives and works in Liverpool and it would be nice to have a base nearby so that we could see her more. It's a 6 hour drive from where we are now. Strange design though.... nowhere near the pool to get changed/showered etc., and I would like easy access to the pool from the bedrooms, which there isn't. The master bedroom is in a completely separate wing on the other side of the house!

TwinklyLightsAllNight · 18/10/2024 11:59

Don't like the Wirral house. Kitchen on first floor too.

They're all so modern and soulless.

I liked the Yorkshire house.

ShyMaryEllen · 18/10/2024 16:19

Me too. The rectangular glasshouses aren't my bag at all. I much prefer the stone built old ones. I don't really want an outdoor pool, either. In the UK you can only use it for about 2 weeks of the year, snd I bet the maintenance is a ballache. If I win the Wirral one, I'll sell it straight away - anyone want first dibs?

OP posts:
Printedword · 18/10/2024 16:27

I don’t mind this one, it’s a proper modern house rather than an old house with all the character removed.

The Cornish one opposite Fowey in Boddinick is the only one I’ve seen in real life. It’s in a really tricky place to get to, very steep driveway. I remember when it was built and there was some amazement at how little effort they had made to make it more subtle. Further along the estuary at Polruan is a superb example of how to build a house in a beautiful place, get all the views without becoming an obvious viewpoint yourself

Me please! I like this house way more than the other (bar the Norfolk and Yorkshire ones, which I give.... 7s out of 10).

ShyMaryEllen · 20/10/2024 17:53

Great. if I win we can negotiate a discount 😎

How does £2m sound?

It's good to have a plan. . .

What do you do in a bonus room?

Is it for keeping all your garden furniture in when it's raining?

evtheria · 20/10/2024 18:33

@ShyMaryEllen Fab, let me just play all the other lotteries to gather funding

@User478 I would use it for Lego. Or a library. Both.

My thoughts exactly. At least there is somewhere to store all those bloody cushions for 10 months of the year 😂

User478 · 30/10/2024 17:18

Have you seen the new Hay on Wye one, with the random kitchen in the bathroom?

Sandwichgen · 30/10/2024 17:41

Its awful. So harsh and ugly.
