Is this a marketplace scam?

I have a fairly expensive item on marketplace and was today messaged by someone wanting to buy it.

they asked me if I could create an eBay listing for it as they wanted to buy it using a card and claim
it back from their work which they couldn’t do with a cash purchase (all asked really nicely and with no pressure). The lady said she works for a hospital and is buying things for a playroom for children.

the Item is my daughter’s and she had cancer as a toddler so this was close to home for me. I asked which hospital and she said she works with paediatric oncology patients and in particular a little girl on palliative care who loves this brand that I am selling.

i then offered for her to have it for free as I would happily give it to a little one in that situation, as would my daughter. She didn’t ask me to and was very kind about it but now my husband is saying I
am being naive and probably scammed.

i politely asked for some proof she works at the hospital and she sent me a picture of her staff id card. I’m inclined to just believe her and if there’s anything I can do to brighten the dark days that family are in then I’d take a chance that I’m being a fool. But does this all sound ridiculous and like I’m a mug?

would that be a legitimate thing for hospital staff to do in terms of buying second hand toys online for a patient / playroom?

thanks in advance

Ask her what hospital and if its close take it yourself maybe?

Oh that’s actually a really good idea, thank you! that would be better for my daughter to see it going there with her own eyes too. She spent so much time in hospital play rooms 😭

I’m not sure second hand items can be accepted in a hospital playroom situation - I think they have to be new to ensure they meet up to date safety and infection control requirements.
The buyer not wanting to pay cash, and also accepting second hand items for a hospital playroom suggests a scam to me.
You could contact the hospital and ask if they are accepting such items for a playroom.

it’s such a shame that someone could be taking advantage of your kind gesture
